Default Dara iz Jasenovca (2021)

Dara from Jasenovac is a Serbian film from 2020, written by Natasa Drakulić and directed by Predrag Antonijević. The original date of the Belgrade premiere was postponed due to the Kovid 19 pandemic, so it was moved from April 22, 2020 to October 22, 2020, and finally to April 22, 2021. However, the first prime minister in Serbia was held in Kosovo and Metohija, more precisely in Gracanica, on November 25, 2020.

The story is about the suffering of Serbian men, women and children in the Jasenovac death camp during the Independent State of Croatia, during the Second World War. It is the first Serbian feature film about one of the most terrible concentration camps in history, made 75 years after its closure. [4]

The first part of the film was shot near the village of Kolut, near Sombor, where the building of an old brickyard with an administrative building was turned into the Jasenovac camp for the purpose of filming. The second part of the film was shot on the sites of Bela Crkva.

The main character, the girl Dara, is interpreted by Biljana Čekić. The leading roles in the film are played by actors from Republika Srpska: Anja Stanić, Zlatan Vidović, Nikolina Friganović, Sandra Ljubojević, Željko Erkić and Goran Jokić. The cast from Serbia consists of: Marko Janketic, Igor Djordjevic, Natasa Ninkovic, Bojan Zirovic, Jovo Maksic, Radoslav Milenkovic, Vuk Kostic, Tatjana Kecman, Petar Zekavica, Jelena Grujcic, Bogdan Bogdanovic and others.

The realization of Dar from Jasenovac is the Serbian representative in the race for the 93rd Oscar and the award of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the category for the best international film. He is also a candidate for the Golden Globe Award in all categories. Biljana Čekić was nominated for the best female role.
Distributor house 101 Studios has concluded an agreement on American rights for the film Dara from Jasenovac. The film is scheduled to be released on February 5, 2021, and thus begin distribution in the United States. A member of the Executive Board of Studio 101, Ron Burkle, said that he had extremely respected the work of director Predrag Antonijevic for years and added his observations about the film:

I was touched by an unknown story told about Dara from Jasenovac. I believe that the audience will appreciate the skill that told this convincing story through the eyes of a small child.

- Ron Burkle, 101 Studios, Film Center of Serbia
The executive director of the mentioned studio, David Glaser, pointed out that Dara from Jasenovac is the first feature film that exposes the crimes of the "notoriously brutal concentration camp Jasenovac" and added that "it is our responsibility to tell this incredible story" and that 101 Studios feels privileged to introduce the American audience to this film.
