Thumbs up Sony 2020 TV line-up, with surprise news

I accepted an invitation to go to Sony HQ Japan and have meetings with the engineers to help develop the 2021 TVs and the new Master Series A9H 4K HDR OLED TV.

The new A9H OLED Master Series, which has only been announced here and now in this post will have a new and more powerful video processor. No name for the new upgraded processor. If all goes as planned I'll be receiving our first mass production A8H series by the end of April 2020.

I'll post more later along with additional information and tentative launch dates and pricing.

Great news Robert! While you are in Japan, please do us a favor and remind Sony that we are all anxiously awaiting for a firmware to update their 4K players to be able to auto detect DV

That damnable X-wide angle is why I bought a 900F instead of the 950G. I second asking Sony to get rid of it, please!

For 2020 the X-Wide view is not going away on the X950H, but if I have anything influence for 2021 we will not see X-Wide view on any Sony TV.

Glasses based 3D TV for the home is dead and buried. The next type of 3D for the home will be glasses-less 3D called Autostereoscopic 3D. Still a couple of years away. Need 8K TVs to drop in price substantially and more research into Auto 3D with eye tracking.

Nice. There's been rumors about the A9H, and that it would debut with the latest processor. Looking forward to eventually finding out how it performs.

Don't forget the Z8H, and of course the Z9G which is carrying over into this year's lineup. It's a feature on all their high-end LCDs now, for good or ill.

Curious how X-Wide Angle has been received on the whole, and what Sony think. Since they've doubled down on it and put it on even more TVs, I guess it hasn't impacted sales negatively at all? I've said it before, but speaking strictly for myself I don't have any strong opinions on it either way, as I haven't seen it in action. I can't really know if I'd fall into the "loathe it" or "love it" camp...

I am guessing the new Sony processor 4K will be similar to the advanced processor Sony is using in their 8K TVs.

More zones in the full-array led's? I got a 950x, and it's pretty great.

Fixing android tv app audio drop-out would be cool, too.

Yeah, if I have a request/wish that's somewhat realistic, I second this. It'd be nice if they could increase the number of dimming zones on the FALD LCDs.

I don't understand the disdain for X-Wide. By people who don't even have those sets, no less.

I 2nd (or 3rd, or whatever) the Dolby Vision comment.

I'm starting to build webpages for the 2020 models with some additional new information, prices and expected launch dates. Here's the A8H OLED TV page.

I've started threads for the 2020 Sony TVs in the OLED and LCD subforums, so feel free to post there as well.

I know this won't matter at all, but as a huge Sony fan, please just let them know that:

1. I would like 3D back, be it active or passive
2. I would like one more real premium high end LCD set (preferably 85") from Sony again, one that can rival the Z9D which means usage of the exact same BMD tech is an absolute must
3. If 2 is not in the pipeline, please tell them I am willing to buy that 85" BMD prototype TV that was shown at CES 2016
4. If 3 is not possible, please tell them I am hoping to see a Sony MiniLED in stores asap
5. Dynamic tonemapping options (just like JVC's), more lumens and a double iris system (also like JVC's) for any upcoming lamp based 4K/HDR projectors, or a "reasonable" priced laser projector would be nice also

I cannot stress this enough. I have been whining about this ever since the Z9F was released.

Because it has been proven again and again it has a negative effect on the most important thing of all: picture quality.

I love Sony (TVs), but they have been going downhill ever since the Z9F. They were on top with the Z9D and they could have easily expanded on that yet they chose to do the exact opposite...

If you can make sure they add the Z9D's BMD to that, then this song is for you:

Well that totally blows for me then. I bought mine on Black Friday and so far, love this set and X-wide was the feature that I bought it for.
So I should've chose the 900F eh?
It'll be two years before I buy another set and hopefully I don't start to see the bad picture that people are talking about.
