Pics! Can you imagine standing on that stack of Blu-rays and getting an up close look at Neil Armstrong's footprints?

Notes

1. Thanks to forum member CochiseGuy for first finding and posting this article.

2. The figures for the first three quarters came from Home Media Research (Q1, Q2, Q3). The figures for the fourth quarter come from the Redhill Group. Note that Judith McCourt, formerly Director Sales and Marketing for Home Media Research, now works at the Redhill Group, so it is very likely that she took her spreadsheets along with her.

3. Figures from the Redhill Group. These figures are higher than the Nielsen VideoScan figures leaked, and like the Home Media Research figures in the past, in all likelihood include sales outside Nielsen coverage.

4. These figures have been calculated from the aggregate sales figures listed above, and disaggregated using Nielsen VideoScan ratios.

Some mistake somewhere. On my records Blu-ray sold its 2 millionth disc (SI) in July 2007 (North America).

And then there's this:

Quote:
According to recently released numbers from Home Media Research, sales of Blu-ray discs totaled 2.6 million units from January 1 through Sept 30, versus 1.4 million HD DVD discs sold over the same period. That's a 1.85:1 sales lead for Blu-ray for the first nine months of this year.

I await further details with interest.

Could those figures be worldwide?? that's all I can think of... otherwise you'll have to ask Bill Hunt as I got it directly from his two cents post.

Nope. These are ALL North America numbers.

Someone has made a mistake.

On my estimates Blu-ray sold approx. 2 million units just in Q4 2007 - that's NA as well.

Hopefully we will get the source of this number and what it actually refers to. Most likely it is for one Blu-ray studio rather than total disc sales.

Sorry guys, this specifically says Sony Pictures Entertainment 2 milionth disk.
The figures quoted before (5.7mil) are from ALL studios not just SPE.
And I think Warner and Disney (BV) actually sold more disks than SPE so total should have passed 6mil already - may be even close to 7th mil.

EDIT: Fozziwig beat me by a minute..

Actually he actually said 2 million Blu-ray discs. I emailed him to say that wasn't possible, and he corrected his post.
