![]() ![]() Among Twilight Time's first releases for 2018 is this Paul Mazursky comedy, a 1969 critical and commercial smash that kicked off his successful run. Natalie Wood, Robert Culp, Dyan Cannon and Elliott Gould star in what can be considered very much a product of its time. The interplay is memorable in the director's style and hopefully more of his work will be forthcoming to the format. |

This should be good, I'm 99% certain this was listed as having a 4K scan in the leaked Sony spreadsheet.
EDIT: I looked up the spreadsheet (title is "4K Scan Titles", if you google that it comes up) and it's listed as a 4K scan with a 2K finish. Last edited by kidglov3s; 10-15-2017 at 12:38 PM. |

4K scan with a 2K finish describes every 4K remaster on 1080p Blu-ray, as well as most so-called 4K UHD discs.

Great news about the 4k transfer and extras, but I'm disappointed by the choice of cover. I would have preferred either the more widely-used image from that photoshoot where everyone is smiling, or the poster in the OP. Especially for those who haven't seen the film, I think this cover gives the wrong impression--this is a comedy, after all, not a serious drama

I gotta say...this film bugs me.
I suppose that's the point since I hope most other people hate double standards like me. Still, it has Natalie at her most beautiful imo |

Really hope Warner Archive puts out Mazursky's Blume in Love sometime soon.

The site posted a review for the Arrow Academy version...here's a couple of comparisons with the TT disc (TT top and Arrow bottom):
[Show spoiler] Arrow has a slightly better encode but both look practically the same. Last edited by Dailyan; 05-20-2019 at 04:48 PM. |

Ha ha, you are not alone. I LOVE both Natalie Wood and Dyan Cannon but all the hippie nonsense annoyed the crap out of me. I was a child in the 60's and grew up hating hippies (it's a long story) but I like Easy Rider (strictly for Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson), Candy ( I love everyone and everything about that movie) and I'm sure there are a few others but for some reason this film bugged me too. I can't quite put my finger on it....

As someone born in the 90s, I was shocked how relevant this felt. I can’t even count the number of couples I’ve encountered in New York and California that are EXACTLY like Culp & Wood: well-intentioned but rich and out of touch, obnoxiously latching onto progressive youth culture to try and feel relevant. I laughed through the whole movie, the scene where Culp finds another man in his bed and tries to act cool and accepting while obviously seething with rage was masterclass comedy acting.
You could remake this with nearly the same script and it would work with today’s trends and politics, just update the details. Make Culp a Vice reporter and Wood an Instagram influencer and you’ve got a hit at Sundance. |

Love this one. Had it on VHS, then laserdisc, then DVD (which I still own). I'll be getting the BD soon, either the TT or Arrow, not sure which. Such a great film, and one of the strongest directorial debuts of its time. Mazursky made so many fine films (BLUME IN LOVE, HARRY AND TONTO, AN UNMARRIED WOMAN, MOSCOW ON THE HUDSON, TEMPEST, ENEMIES: A LOVE STORY, etc.). This is one of his finest, IMO.
