Default Best on Blu Ray...

So tell me people, what do you think the best movie to date is on Blu Ray. Judge on picture quality as well as soundtrack. I want real movies, not any of that Pixar crap...I'm an adult with no kids so I do not watch that stuff...I want something to really give my theater a workout...

I'm an adult with no kids as well, and I love pixar movies. Anyways, to answer your question, if you like sci-fi, check out Sunshine. It has awesome visuals and a killer soundtrack.

Pixar? Crap?

I hate to break it to you, but the best looking movie on any high definition format is a Pixar title: Ratatouille

Default Hmmm..

Ok ppl, bad choice of words calling Pixar crap. I know that they are supposed to look and sound great however that is not my style. I like seeing real people, not digital images...

You could also go through the reviews on this site---besides the professionally-written entries, many titles have multiple user-contributed mini-reviews. You are the best judge of what films appeal to you, but you should get a lot of good (and varied) recommendations regarding the picture & sound quality of many titles.

Casino Royale is a good one. It starts out with a really grainy scene (created on purpose), but then the first action scene kicks in and it takes off from there.

And, not sure why Pixar movies aren't your bag, but Cars and Ratatouille are probably the best reference BDs to showcase what BD is all about. They may not have real people, but the amazing PQ and audio simply blows people away.

Here are some that I have that look/sound good. I posted these in another thread yesterday but modified the list slightly.

Live Free or Die Hard
2001 (SQ is pretty good for the most part)
Apocalypto
Black Hawk Down (PQ isn't great in a short opening sequence but is good from then on)
Blade Runner
Casino Royale
Crank
Day After Tomorrow
Deja Vu
Pan's Labyrinth
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Fifth Element (remastered)
Pirates 1, 2, 3
Kingdom of Heaven
The Rock
Con Air
Layer Cake
Man on Fire
Hellboy
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Spiderman 3
Shoot 'Em Up
Sunshine (probably my favorite movie at the moment, great SQ)

If you want to push the limits of your home theater, then go with Black Hawk Down's award winning soudn design.

Every Blu-ray with Ridley Scott's name on it has been top notch. Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, even his older stuff like Black Rain and (especially) Blade Runner. Black Hawk Down definitely has monster sound too.

Sunshine is another great one. Great DTS-HD MA sound on that one too.

The Pirates movies and Casino Royale are obvious choices. For an older movie 2001 is unbelieveable. The remastered version of The Fifth Element is pretty great, it does have some graininess to it though.

I'm not a fan of the movie, but RESIDENT EVIL 2 looks and sounds amazing! Of course, Pixar's Ratatouille is the best Blu-Ray movie to date, in my opinion.
