![]() Still nowhere near "Miracle", but a good contender. A sampling of the ESPN 30 For 30 documentaries should also be up there-- There's not many fictional sports films out there better than "Four Days in October" or "June 17, 1994". |

The Bad News Bears (1976)
Rocky When We Were Kings Miracle Hoosiers Slap Shot Major League Eight Men Out The Fighter Searching for Bobby Fisher (if you've seen it you know what I mean, if you think I'm an idiot, well, I understand) And yeah, Victory was very underappreciated (and soccer was actually fairly hot in the US in the early 80s). Miracle just shatters all the "Inspirational coach" drama cliche's by focusing on the real hard work and the context of the championship game at the time--
It's easily more of an ESPN movie than a Disney movie. (Given how many of Disney's other "Inspirational sports" movies made us cringe.) Quote:
"Silly Little Game" is the only clinker out of the bunch, trying to make a "comedy documentary" (yuk yuk) out of the founding of Fantasy Baseball-- But "Four Days in October" goes past all the "loyal Red Sox nation" cliches to focus on the MLB footage, and remind you just how nailbiting that Red Sox vs. Yankees championship was. And "June 17, 1994" manages to be both bitter and touching, as we saw three of the biggest events in sports history that year in one day almost ignored by the news because an ex-football star was driving away from the police in a white Bronco on the LA freeway.
