Default Steven Spielberg vs David Lynch

The king of enterteinment and blockbusters or the auteur of surrealism. Two vastly different directors who were influential in their own.

Which body of work do you prefer?

Steven Spielberg never liked any of the films that I have seen of David Lynch.

I prefer Spielberg's films and directing style to Lynch's.

Lynch, obviously. This isn't even a serious question.

Spielberg is a rank amateur in comparison.

It's like comparing Mozart to a five year old struggling to play Chopsticks on a Xylophone.

Lynch is a master, and every Lynch film a masterclass. Especially Blue Velvet, possibly the single greatest film that will ever be made.

Ooh, funny enough I think Blue Velvet is one of the worst films ever made. Also, Spielberg has mastered many genres for decades and has won more prestigious awards, was a bigger box office name, has a far stronger filmography and in no way is a "five year old struggling to play Chopsticks" compared to Lynch.

Might be the other way around.

The one that made the movie about the shark that's the best film ever to grace the screen.

That’s a really weird interpretation of Blue Velvet.

I enjoy the accessible comfort of apples but I also find digging into oranges pretty rewarding.

this is kind of unfair;

One-
*Has directed the highest grossing film of all times (multiple times)(Jaws, E.T., Jurassic Park)
*Has directed 16 films that grossed pass $100 million at domestic box office, more than anyone in film history.
*Has had his own major film studio. (DreamWorks SKG)
*Has one of the most successful production company in film history. (Amblin Ent.)
*Has the most recognizable name in film history.
*Has a net worth of $3.738 billion (2021)

The other-
Has none of that.

It's a fair match up. Lynch may not have the blockbusters, but on forums like this he is viewed as one of the sacred cows of cinema, and Spielberg is often shat on by many for being too sentimental or vanilla. Basically they both have tons of fans and are highly regarded.
