Basic Instinct 4K UHD (1992) (Lionsgate Limited)

Lionsgate Limited will be releasing Basic Instinct on 4K on April 15th! Pre-orders officially go live on March 4th, but has just leaked out early via the Shop app. It'll include the original 2.0 theatrical stereo mix, which is the first time that's been on a release since Laserdisc. This will be a 3-disc set with the film on 4K and Blu-ray as well as a 2nd Blu-ray with extras, including some exclusive to this release. The included Blu-ray will be remastered as well. This release is exclusive to the Lionsgate Limited Store.

I hope there's something here to justify the puzzling four-year delay from the 2021 StudioCanal disc.

EDIT: Never mind, I forgot that the StudioCanal disc doesn't have the stereo track, so hopefully, there's good news coming.

Hopefully, they can get the extras from the Pioneer Laserdisc. I don't think those ever made it to DVD or blu-ray. Kudos for including the original stereo mix! Do we have Cliff to thank for this?

Lionsgate ports of StudioCanal usually do not fix any encoding issues, so it will remain likely the same unfortunately.

It's been 4 years?? Why such a delay? SC had a 48 month exclusivity contract on their own restoration?

That's because they're not ports, the discs were literally made for Lionsgate by StudioCanal. But this having the 2.0 mix means it's not a simple copy and paste job, looks like a localised encode - has Cliff done a laserdisc capture again for the 2.0? - and even tho Lionsgate's compressionists like to take a little off the top, I'll gladly accept that for a more consistent presentation than the SC disc's usual rollercoaster bitrate.

I still think this would have been better if it had come from Vinegar Syndrome as a Vinegar Syndrome Ultra release....but I'll take it.
