Default New 4K remasters of Miracle Mile and Cherry 2000 from Kino Lorber (TBA 2022)

From director Steve De Jarnatt's Facebook page:

1 - Sometime in 2022 – KINO LORBER CLASSICS - will put out a new SPECIAL EDITION of --- MIRACLE MILE !!! To be scanned in 4K off the original negative. (the last giant improvement in 2015 was 2k off the inter-positive). This will be a regular Blu Ray - (not released on 4k) - but upping the ante considerably on image quality. (please no *****ing and moaning about it not being out in 4k – I don’t have a machine – few do – and I could care less). It will be wonderful with this major new restoration.

Plenty ‘o great new extras not on the 2015 release – plus my noir short - TARZANA – with Eddie Constantine, Tim Carey, Michael C. Gwynne, Edie Adams (the Coroner from Chinatown, the Madam from Farewell My Lovely, Carel Struycken, Ann Dusenberry and Reni Santoni etc. ( maybe just maybe – another very special item)

2 - Kino will also be re-upping their deal on Cherry 2000 – and we will do more extras !!! (Kino Lorber Classics RULES !! ) And I think a new 4k scan. (this is a general announcement – not the locked down specifics )

Wow, Steve De Jarnatt sounds like a real ******* for calling people out that would like a UHD of Miracle Mile. I'd fork out for that but with this, I'll stick with my Blu from a few years ago.

"I could care less" is a bummer (especially because it ought to be "couldn't"), but I also can see why he's trying to prevent people complaining to him about something he can't control.

Sounds very short sighted for saying "I" don't have a UHD Blu-ray player so **** all of you that do.

If I'm going to have to double-dip on someone's complete filmography, at least it's only two films!

Wow, am I going to buy Miracle Mile on blu-ray for a fourth time in (probably) under two years? Yes, I am.

(Just discovered it last year but it’s quickly become one of my favorite films of the 80’s. Bought Kino’s release twice because the first was lost in the mail, and then Arrow’s when I went region free since it was in 1.85:1 and seemed to have slightly better PQ — and I love the film that much. )

Worth the upgrade for "Tarzana" alone. A fantastic short film.

Yep. Cannot believe they were able to clear up the music issues. One of the most impressive student films I have ever seen

If you don’t have it, his book of short stories, Grace After Grace is phenomenal. He’s a wonderful writer

He really doesn’t, though. It’s incredibly expensive and time-consuming to make UHD discs. I’ll take Blu-Rays from 4K Restos, and having Tarzana finally is way more important

The fact that he says he could (couldn't) care less about himself or fans wanting these on the best format available says it all. As Bill Paxton would say, "He's in it for the money, not the science".

It's not a promotional account, it's a guy posting on his own Facebook page. You guys are being flat out ridiculous, Steve De Jarnatt is one of the nicest directors I've ever spoken to on social media. Accusing him of being in any way unfriendly to his fans is just nonsense.

Fantastic news! Miracle Mile was a great discovery when I first watched it via DVD and my love for the film has grown exponentially with every viewing. I was sorta disappointed in the transfer so this getting a new scan blows my mind. Who cares if it's Blu-ray only - not every film needs to be on UHD. I hope Kino goes with the theatrical poster for the cover this time, though. I'll also grab Cherry 2000. Fun flick.

Agreed re: Steve being incredibly nice on social media. Jeff Burr is another director who's just a really swell guy.

It’s just a flippant comment prolly designed to deflect attention as said, sure, but he still sounds like an arse for saying it. But if so few people even have 4K then why would he be afraid of getting deluged with comments about it? That’s what I don’t get...

'Miracle Mile' is a favorite of mine. I will be all over a 4K scan, as I felt the Blu-Ray was a marginal upgrade over the DVD (but the special features were fantastic).
