Paramount is seriously killing it this year. I'm surprised this wasn't a Presents title. I suppose that implies it's not from a new scan/restoration?

I would take it that way - and it does detract from the possibility of this being paired with a much-needed redo of Reds (for its 40th anniversary - if Ragtime makes the cut, why not Paramount's other 1981 expensive three-hour epic?), as that surely would be a Presents or UHD title and I don't think they'd do a tie-in across lines. But I still have hope.

Two years ago I bought the Spanish bootleg (?) from Amazon Spain as a placeholder just to tell myself that I had this on blu ray. Really looking forward to getting a proper U.S. release. If you keep your PQ expectations low, the bootleg is actually quite watchable. And region free. But, I won't shed a tear when I replace it in late November.

Personally I was expecting Criterion for a Blu-ray release or at least from Paramount Presents series with new 4K restoration and new interviews and a booklet (from Criterion). At least let's hope if it hasn't new restoration the HD transfer to be excellent.

****ing finally!!!! Another title I can cross off my wishlist. I gotta say these past two years so many films I've wanted have finally made the transition to bluray. Just to name a few: Bringing up Baby, Libeled Lady, Mommie Dearest, Twentieth Century, The Parallax View, etc...
In my dream scenario this would have come out as a Paramount Presents title or Criterion release. It's too bad this isn't getting some sort of restoration and will most likely be an old HD master. Here's hoping it looks good and not like one of those ancient/dated masters (like half of the titles licensed from Paramount and released by Imprint). That being said, at this point I'll take what I can get.

As I mentioned in my previous post, the current HD master on digital services looks pretty fantastic, IMO. I would have preferred a new 4K but as long as it's what's online, that's worth the upgrade as far as I'm concerned.
