LG-Made Quest Pro 2 Will Reportedly Ship In The First Half Of 2025
https://www.uploadvr.com/lg-quest-pr...y-2025-report/ "Meta will handle the software of the new headset, webOS (the operating system of LG TVs) will somehow be incorporated. It's unclear what exactly this means, but it might mean the headset will essentially include a virtual LG TV. This could bring over services like Netflix, Disney+, Max, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Hulu, Paramount+, and VUDU with no extra developer effort required." Looks like 3D Movies will make a comeback via VR headsets. More info from a Korean article. https://www.hankyung.com/article/2024022584421 Last edited by Jezmar; 02-26-2024 at 03:00 PM. |

Yeah that makes sense re: webOS, and is a pretty great idea.
It might be hard to convince content providers to make a Quest-specific app, but because of LG's TV marketshare they will need to create one for LG - and with Quest integrating WebOS it means that all the apps LG TVs get, Quest gets. IMO this might even open the door for 3DTV support for LG TVs as well (if there is any desire at all for this), as Meta might fund the 3D app development for WebOS, which would allow LG to integrate the software into their TV at no cost to them. The only reason I could see LG returning to 3DTV is because LG is facing some stiff competition in the OLED market (plus the rise of lower cost yet comparable quality MINI LED) and it would be a differentiator for them that its competitors probably would struggle to match at least initially. |
