Default Castle Freak Remake coming from Full Moon and Fangoria

Cast Announced for Full Moon and Fangoria’s ‘Castle Freak’; Fabio Frizzi Composing Original Score!:

Quote:
Newcomer Clair Catherine, Jake Horowitz (The Vast of Night), Chris Galust (Give Me Liberty), and Kika Magalhães (The Eyes of My Mother) are set to star in the reimagining of Dennis Paoli and Stuart Gordon’s 1995 horror classic Castle Freak, Bloody Disgusting has learned.

Emily Sweet (Syn), Elisha Pratt (“True Detective”), and Omar Brunson also star in what will be the second feature team-up between FANGORIA and Full Moon Features, after the success of last year’s Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich.

The story follows recently-blinded Rebecca, her boyfriend John, and their friends as they travel to Albania to manage Rebecca’s sudden inheritance of a castle from her long-lost-mother. Once there, they learn that Rebecca’s family harbored dark secrets with potentially cosmic implications. As mysterious happenings and horrific murders begin to occur, Rebecca must unravel her family’s own mysterious history before she too falls prey to… the CASTLE FREAK.

Award-winning SFX Makeup Artist Tate Steinsiek (Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, Satanic Panic) will make his feature debut directing the script written by Kathy Charles (The Kings of Maine). Italian maestro Fabio Frizzi (Zombi 2, The Beyond) will compose an original score for the movie.

Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk are producing for FANGORIA along with Barbara Crampton, Charles Band (producer of the original film), and Justin Martell & Matt Manjourides. David Gilbery and Charles Dorfman are executive producing for Media Finance Capital, who have fully financed the picture. Adam Donaghey, Phil Nobile Jr and Danielle Cox are executive producing for FANGORIA, alongside Bobby Campbell of Good Wizard.

Production begins next month in Albania.

Saw Castle Freak for the first time a few months ago on Joe Bob Briggs' The Last Drive-In and loved it. I'm sure a remake will pale in comparison.

Barbara Crampton Talks New ‘Castle Freak’ Movie; “The Story is Completely Different”

Quote:
Fangoria and Full Moon have joined forces for a new take on Stuart Gordon’s 1995 horror flick Castle Freak – a favorite of mine from the Full Moon library – and one of the producers is one of the stars of the original film, horror icon Barbara Crampton. In a new chat with Movie Web, Crampton teases that the new version of Castle Freak isn’t exactly a remake.

“First of all, it’s not a remake, it’s a reimagining,” Crampton told the site. “I only say that because I just want people to know the story is completely different. We have a completely different premise for the story. The characters are all different. There are a few similarities. There is a freak. There is a castle. There is a character named Rebecca and there’s a character named John, but who they are and their relationship is completely different, and we have a whole new cast of characters.”

Filming has wrapped on Castle Freak, and Crampton expects an early-mid 2020 release.

I only remember some unidity from the 90s version and a sequence on the roof of the castle; I rented it on VHS and it was probably my first encounter with "Euro" horror

I saw the trailer of the new version and I got "Dracula 3D" vibes. It's a shame that even low budget titles can't pull off a decent look, I'll still give it a chance simply for the Frizzi score.

Saw this the other night. Wow! What a lot of fun. There are a few logic gaps here and there, like questioning the wisdom of our heroine immediately after a critical event at the beginning of the film, but otherwise it's a solid story. The gore was good as were the Freak and the other effects. The acting was generally good, except for the kid called the Professor. He was not good at all. The location provides a ton of production value. I definitely recommend this one.
