Wiring and Size Help

I did a dumbass search for throw size and found it. I'm a dumbass. But - still could use help with the wiring.

I have a Sony blu ray system and the wires to the speakers are not long. They are hard wired in the speakers, and the plug to the blu ray is Sony built. So, I can't just get extension. If I purchase speaker wire, cut in the center of the sony wires, attach and tape the new wires, would this work? I can't think of any reason it wouldn't. But, I don't know all that much.
