This is indeed the optimal persona to adopt when going into a court room with Disney.

Not sure they will win, just being the screenwriters, unless they had some sweet deal in place with Fox at the time.
I hope they do though

It's a statutory right. Disney are contesting that they did not exercise it at the right time.

I will literally laugh if it transpires Fox gave artists contracts on so much of their IP that effectively gives them control over the rights.

Murdoch will have effectively shafted Disney.

There doesn’t seem to be an actual reason other than they just don’t want Disney to have it. That’s a stupid reason imo.

It's a perfectly valid reason.

Creators want control of the thing they created.

I agree creators should have control but why are they making a big deal now?

Did they have control of it this whole time under Fox and all the sequels?

In most situations, after 35 years the authors have the right to have their original work produced (ie remade) and, more importantly, distributed.

Authors don't always exercise this right for a variety of reasons.

It really seems they just don’t want Disney to have it then.

If I’m understanding correctly they had sold it to Fox and having control back didn’t matter to them til now.

No, they had to wait 35 years.

More likely they want to make a deal with a streaming service to turn it into a series or something and they are applying to make that possible without infringing on Disney's currently exclusive rights to distribute the existing Predator movies.

If everything's been done properly Disney have to allow it. If not then Disney can contest it.

It does not affect Disney's right to distribute those existing movies. (Until whatever actual contract they have on that expires. If it ever expires.)

Don't like modern corporate Disney. Will be interesting to see how this pans out.

As a consumer who has come to utterly despise modern day Disney, this news delights me to no end, and I think it speaks volumes about how actual creatives in the industry feel about Disney, too, when they’re willing to put their careers on the line and take the studio to court just because the idea of that particular studio having the final word on their creation is so unpalatable.
