United Kingdom My Fair Lady UHD UK

Just arrived from Amazon and I've put it on.
Approx 20 minutes in and there's awful sound dropouts, sound crackling.

I've done all the usual checks and replayed but exactly the same.

Anyone watched theirs yet?

Wondering if it's a general issue or just mine.

As always: it’d be handy to know what player you have, what sound system you have, how they’re connected etc.

If I had to guess I’d say your gear isn’t playing nicely with the 96kHz audio.

The usual Amazon nonsense, -if I order it right now, they say I'll have it by Sunday. I pre-ordered it early in the game and they're saying I'll get it in ten days.

Still don’t say what player, still don’t say how they’re connected. Help me, to help you.

There's no Samsung OLEDS. Also, I think certain Samsung soundbars are very vulnerable to interference from other devices.

From looking at the manual (I mean, who looks at that stuff?) the sound bar doesn’t even appear to support lossless Dolby/DTS audio (whatever that is) so yeah, I’m going with the sound bar choking on the 96kHz audio. What that means is the audio has a sampling rate twice as large as conventional audio tracks heard on all your other discs, it’s shifting more data and your gear cannae handle it.

I’ll bet cash money that if you switch to another language track (yes, I know they’re not English, it’s just for testing purposes) the crackling and dropouts are gone.

I can't check right now.

But for someone like me who has no clue on the tech specs of sound etc..... Where does that leave someone like me. I can't afford to upgrade just for the sake of one film.
Surely I'm not the only person who will have this issue.

I was gonna say “you won’t be the only one” and sadly I was right, several people are also reporting the audio is cutting out for them. If you want to be sure, aside from playing one of the dub tracks as mentioned, then play the regular BD from the UK set and see what happens as it has the same 96kHz audio track as the UHD. If that also cuts out then it’s 100% your gear.

Unfortunately there is no solution other than buying equipment that’s compatible, which as you say is highly impractical for one movie.

You could also try switching to PCM output, if that's an option with your setup. I.e. have the player decode the audio and maybe even downsample while doing so. Or maybe try switching to lossy.

Funny enough, my Oppo player (not sure if it was/is the 83, 93 or both) was (and still is till this day) choking on decoding the DTS-HD MA track of the original My Fair Lady BD and causes some loud crackling. One of the MediaTek DTS issue discs...
