Hopefully, we would see the rest of the Almodovar films that were just released in Spain introduced on Blu-ray in the U.S. as well.

Excellent. I love Pedro's films. Sony needs to release the rest of his films on Blu ray.

Based alone on my impressions of Volver, this will be picked up as soon as it comes out. I'm not usually in the market for 'blind buys', but for this I'll make the exception...

I might be blind-buying this. Heard nothing but good things about it.

That needs to come out too, hopefully they will get the subtitle positioning correct (Sony can be spotty with subtitle positioning).

I really want to see Broken Embraces, wished I had the chance to see it theatrically.

Trogdor, you must be running a 'scope' setup, like me....fortunately, I use a Samsung upconverting dvd with the 'EZ View' feature, that allows one to reposition (moves up) the subtitles into the active area. Unfortunately, I won't have that luxury if 'AAMM' if ever comes to blu....I'll just have to watch it on my smaller 65" 16:9 crt rptv

There is hope though. The new cheaper Oppo player (BDP-80) offers subtitle placement for 2.35:1 and also a V stretch mode (like the higher end BDP-83), it does cost money ($289), but I'm definately considering it especially for foreign movies that companies like sony screws up on subtitle placement. This and the Multichannel outputs will be my main reason for the new oppo player. I am a fan of Pedro Almodovar's work, but this needs better respect for us CIH owners, look at Volver. Pray that they do it right for Broken Embraces and of course All about my mother (also my favorite Almodovar movie). Consider the Oppo player.

Wow, I was not aware that any BD player had subtitle repositioning...this is great news, my thanks Trogdor. I'll have to check into Oppo availability in Canada. Finally, I'll be able to enjoy my non-CIH friendly foreign titles like: La Femme Nikita, Black Book, and Shinobi.

Here is the link for the player, it talks about all the features of the player.

OPPO BDP-80 Blu-ray Disc Player - Features and Specifications

And here is the comparison page with the BDP 08 to the BDP-83

OPPO BDP-80 Blu-ray Disc Player - Comparison

The reason Oppo was able to discount the model is that they removed the ABT chip by Anchor Bay in that model which the BDP-80 uses it's own processing chip, which has more involvement when upconverting DVDs. Oppo recommends users with large Home theater screens to go for the BDP-83 instead of the BDP-80, but this is more of a marketing trick for them to upsell their higher end player. However, If these features are important to you, go for the BDP-83, but for most people, and from the blu ray players you use, it shouldn't make a difference. Pick your poison.

The Oppo player will be availible for order on January 25.

Exactly my thoughts.

It will be expensive to upgrade all my Almadovar DVD's but .. so worth it.

I've just watched Broken Embraces today. I though it was Pedro Almodovar's most personal film he made. Calling thematics of Fellini, Hitchcock and Almodovar's own work, but it's thematically different from his previous films. Not his most entertaining (still goes to All About My Mother), but it shows how Pedro has become as a filmmaker, a true work of art. Amazes the senses and mind.
