Default Transfer super-large mp4s?

Alright... Hello again everyone!

k, see, ive got this mp4. its... its a very large mp4. You know... 7 gigs-ish?

Any ideas on how to transfer it to the PS3? i think ive tried literally everything.

Ive tried using a media server. it recognized EVERY SINGLE FILE in the folder except for, of coarse, the one i needed it to recognize.
I played around with that for a little while, but i realised that my PC simply hates me and doesnt want me to transfer that file.

SO!... i upload my file to the internet. This HAS to work? right?
...nope.
I used the ps3 browser to attempt to download the movie. It recognizes it as a video and trys to save it to the VIDEO part in the xmb.
Yay! Its working?
...i wish.
It gets to %99, says "Pending" flashes "Downloading" every couple of seconds just to annoy me, then restarts back at %0 just to do the same thing again. -.-....

What next? Ipod? YES! I have an 80 gig ipod with only 6 gigs being used on it.
So i open itunes, click "enable hard drive usage thing" or whatever it was that lets me use it as an external hard drive...
Alright. this has to work. Right? Right!?
haha. ...nope.
See, i can drag small little things over to the ipod to use it as an external hard drive.
I tried doing it with some themes and it worked fine. of corse, ive got over 70 gigs to mess with here so my hard disk cant POSSIBLY be full.

well, not according to windows! I get my file (Its a transformers HD-DVD converted into mp4 format by the way. this explains the large file size. had to get rid of the 5.1 to convert it though oh well. it also took about 5 days straight to convert it.), drag it into the ipod HDD like i did with those themes.
YA...Y?? Wait? What? Its full!?

Well, according to windows, its full. ...thats right. windows thinks its full. if i right click it, and click properties it says ive got 70-somthing gigs left but when i try to drag my 7 gig movie over to it, it manages to randomly fill itself up somehow! Great!

Its incredibly weird. theres nothing wrong with the video... i can watch it with VLC... but thats no fun. i wanna be able to say "Harhar! I have an HD-DVD running on my PS3!"

Any ideas?

i know talking about illegal things is forbidden and what-not, but just dont think of it like that. think of it more like "How to transfer a really big file to the PS3 without an external hard-drive" type of thing. you know? ...dont ban me

Anybody have any ideas? im fresh out...

i was actually attempting this type of large file transfer awhile back

the way i do it is to streaming the video and then just copy it into the ps3

i use tverisity as my media server, i dont stream the movie, but instead on the ps3 i just go onto the video file and copy it onto my ps3 hdd.

i got files size from 4-5gb to even a 23gb video file onto my ps3 hdd.

but for some reason now, but ps3 keeps d/c me from transferring large files. so now all i do it if the files are smaller than 8gb is burn them on dl dvd+r and watch them like a dvd.

oops missed the media server part in your post.

but most of the time if you stream the video file with a media server and the ps3 wont recognize it, then even if you get it into the ps3 hdd it wont recognize it there as well.

what program did you use to make the mp4 ?
i used to use kawa ps3 video 9. only problem with that converter was if you switched the bitrate of mp4avc files on large files the ps3 wont recognize them.

save it to a DL DVD as data...the burn will take a half hour tops and you can copy it to your PS3 HDD or just keep it as a movie...

I'm still trying to figure out how to convert certain MKV files...only some can convert due to the certain audio codec which I don't know too much about...

I have 2 goodies I am trying to move to the PS3 but they just sit on the comp until I can do so...

i think theres a file limit on mp4's like 4gb? but m2ts, vob files (rename to mpg) aren't capped

i did notice though that for some reason after the last ps3 update these large files stopped playing on the ps3... didnt bother trying to re-copy them onto the harddrive (i think thats all it would need)

anyway i use Fileserver from redkawa to transfer the files over to my ps3

EDIT. thought id post the slogan and desciption to the program... just cause i found the desciption... hilarious.

-----BRING YOU WITH FANTASTIC USE EXPERIENCE!!!

Allok Video to MP4 Converter is a easiest-to-use video converter software for portable MP4 Player, iPod, Apple TV, PSP, PS3, Zune, Xbox 360, ARCHOS, Plam etc. It is also a powerful MP4 converter with fast conversion speed. And the output MP4 movie/video supports MP4 screen.-----

Its downloading right now by the way. Full version. Should be cool to see how this turns out...

How long does it normally take you to convert? or do you do an mkv passthrough? i couldnt figure that thing out. apparently people were using an "MKV Passthrough" to "Convert" their movies in under 10 minutes...
I selected the option and it still took days to convert.
Whatever.

You can also download GOTSent if you will, open your mkv file and "Mux to VOB". Download AC3Filter and you can set the audio to 5.1 when you're using GOTSent. This way it'll get you a 720p movie with DD 5.1 @ 640kbps. DTS doesn't quite work yet.

yeah i have started to do that as well, but for larger movies like uhh TF which was 23gbs, i dont like to split my movies. but other movies are don on the dl dvd as you have done as well.

have you tried mkv2vob ???, the lastest version works pretty well in converting and transcoding mkvs. ive only had problems converting mkvs that came from a certain "ripper" who makes his mkvs like 2gbs big. other than that all the others work great and most movies in 720p fit perfectly in a dl-dvd
