Yes you can, I have a seagate 320gb. Sits neatly next to ps3, very simple to use, plug and play.

Although you would need to reformat to FAT32. To me this sounded like a b**l ache, but it was simple I used a free program called Swissknife.

It been fantastic, still ploughing through my CD,s until they are all in the little black box. Then its the loft for the collection!

It runs silent and its 7200 speed..

Fat32? Reformat? Swissknife? Eh?

I've been looking into this as well, but didn't know what was necessary.

any FAT32 formatted USB drive will work fine attached to the PS3. You can also replace the internal drive with a 2.5" FAT32 formatted drive. I replaced the one in mine to 160GB.

Just attach the drive to a pc or mac. O a mac, format it to a pc format. On a pc, specify FAT32.
Once it is formatted, it will be fine on the PS3.

Yeah FAT32, that was me 3 years ago..

It really was simple, once you have the Swissknife software, open the drive delete the current ntsf format(I think this is the right terminology) and one click does the rest. It takes 2 mins at the most.

The PS3 will not recognise the drive unless its FAT
