YouTuber RedGamingTech has dropped a fairly massive rumor overnight, claiming that a Metal Gear Solid remake is currently in the pipeline for PS5 and PC.
RedGamingTech has a pretty solid track record and their source apparently has a 100% track record to boot. the same source says that Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots are all being remastered (NOT remade), but it’s unknown if they will arrive on PS5 at this point. Konami hasn’t done anything with the Metal Gear Solid IP since the atrocity that was Metal Gear Survive a few years ago, so a remake of the first entry would definitely help reinvigorate the franchise. Metal Gear Solid was released for the PSOne back in 1998 in Japan and the US and arrived in Europe the following year. It was the first instalment to utilise 3D technology and full voice acting, establishing David Hayter in his iconic role as Solid Snake in the process. https://www.psu.com/news/metal-gear-...lopment-rumor/ |

The original is my all-time favourite game. I don't think a remake is particularly necessary (we already got The Twin Snakes), but let's face it, I'll be picking it up day one. Also pleased that the other games are apparently being remastered.

I remember Bluepoint was rumoured to be working on this project years ago but turned out they were remaking Demon Souls. I loved the original and still have it in my collection, but I can't bring myself to actually play it anymore because I don't have access to a CRT. |

After MS bought Zenimax, i think Sony might as well try and make a move for Konami IPs like MGS, Castlevania, Silent Hill etc. and Bungie just to cheese MS off
![]() I could really imagine Bungie doing some amazing games under the PlayStation banner. That said, tbh, i don't want anymore big name acquisition where they have the IPs that people quite like for 3rd party content like Bethesda had in Doom, Elder Scrolls, Fallout etc. |

I dunno about desperate. It's still an amazing game and very playable even today. Like I said, I've got an invested interest in this project because the original is my all-time fave, but if this winds up being a 're-imagining' ala Tomb Raider: Anniversary and the recent RE remakes, then that'll be disappointing.

That's what needs to happen with MGS. They gave a tease of Shadow Moses in MGS4 with modern graphics and gameplay and it was great, now they need to do that with even better graphics for the whole game. No matter how much I love the original it's certainly a game of its time much like FF7 was and they just wouldn't work in todays gaming world. They need to be updated and modernised otherwise there's just now point in remaking it. Take Shenmue I and II for example, they were a chore to play again and really could have done with a proper remake not just a spit polish to make it look OK on a modern TV. |

I wonder how they would handle Psycho Mantis now that people are so privacy conscious?

Anyway, this is my favorite game in the series so it would be great to see a nice remake. Hope it isn't digital only, otherwise we won't know where to look for that codec frequency ![]() |

As long as David Hayter is back as Snake, I'm good.
After TPP, I thought a remake of MG 1 and 2 (maybe combining both missions into one game) in the fox engine would have been fantastic way to round out the series. As much as I liked Twin Snakes, the over the top cut scenes were a bit too much and I did miss much of the old score (like the emotional piano track that they redid in MGS4 when he went back to Shadow Moses). |

And it would need a more than upgraded graphics. Twin Snakes just repainted MGS with MGS2 graphics and tech and it took some of the challenge out of the game (able to walk silently over noisy floor grates, making some boss fights easier like Revolver Ocelot's and the final bit of Gray Fox's fight). I wouldn't mind if they did what MGS3 or TPP did instead of having an omnipotent radar (which I believe was used to help the players due to a lack of camera control, along with being ported over from MG2SS). I mean, maybe players can get it as bonus item after beating the game like the stealth camo or the bandana. So some things would have to altered to take advantage of the more modern tech without easing the difficulty. Sort of like the RE3Remake Clocktower fight.
