Default Gaming Nausea + Headaches

Hi all,

Just curious if anybody else experiences this:

After the PS3 era, I switched over to mainly Nintendo systems (Wii U & Switch) to play with my little ones.

I've been able to have hours-long marathon BOTW sessions, Odyssey, Smash and whatever else without issue whatsoever.

I recently got a PS5 a few months ago and was PUMPED to start playing some AAA games again.

However, whenever I play games like Miles Morales, Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc.-- I get this crazy amount of nausea followed by an eventual grueling headache

I've tried some ginger candy, but it doesn't do much.

It's gotten so bad the thing is essentially collecting dust.

Astro's Playroom & Madden-- no issues whatsoever there!

I guess what I'm asking is-- does anybody else have this issue?

Could it be the high res/high texture/high framerates??

BOTW and Odyssey don't cause me issues, and they're both 3rd person.

Ideas??

Sorry to hear that. I feel that way with the PSVR for first person games. Whenever I jump into the air, and then land all of a sudden, or turn too quickly in VR, dizziness is followed by nausea and the need to stop and rest for at least 30 minutes on my side. Only solution with VR is to use the tunnel vision option if there is one, which shuts off most of my view unfortunately.

2D games, no issues thankfully other than with the wobbly helicopter in GTAV with the camera wobbling all over the place. Same with the annoying wobbling camera in Witcher 3 as Geralt walks along the uneven ground (with the patch I was able to shut off the wobble).

I would consider moving back twice as far to reduce the impact of the images. Also consider dimming the light/brightness setting and contrast from your TV, to make the image a bit darker and less intense.

Also, I would stabilize my head against a back rest so it's secure and not moving. That helps me when in VR quite a bit.

You might be able to play those games again without feeling dizzy, but it might take the right settings to do it hopefully.

I think it's because of the higher framerate. I recommend taking a break, but return to the game after you feel better. hopefully you get used to it

I used to get a lot of headaches in the ps3 gen, mostly from first person games, and games hovering in the 15-30 fps. but it went away thankfully

Only Xbox games have this affect on me.

I get this effect when playing long hours of 60 & then switching to a 30 game.

Happened to me just yesterday when doing the Death Stranding Save transfer.
I think motion blur is the cause more so than 30.

For me, it used to be FPS games (CoD or Battlefield comes to mind) which caused this most of the time but some high frame-rates in games as well. It's better now, though I still avoid FPS if I can.

I'd suggest trying a smaller screen.
