Blu-ray Archduke

![]() ![]() "Jude Law and Carrie Coon are set to star in Martha Marcy May Marlene director Sean Durkin’s next pic, The Nest, sources tell Variety. The movie is a co-production between FilmNation and BBC Films with Durkin writing and directing. FilmNation and BBC Films are producing along with Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Films. The film is part psychological thriller, part family drama and follows Law’s character, Rory, an ambitious entrepreneur who brings his American wife and kids to his native country, England, to explore new business opportunities. After abandoning the sanctuary of their safe American suburban surroundings, the family is plunged into the despair of an archaic ’80s Britain and their unaffordable new life in an English manor house threatens to destroy the family. As the eerie isolation of the house pushes the family further apart, each person descends into a self-destructive cycle, leaving everyone unsure if their family will survive-altering displacement." THR: "An elegant, eerie drama of marital distress."
Variety: "[...] one can scarcely overlook the connections between Sean Durkin’s subtly unsettling second feature, “The Nest,” and Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining,” even if this is by far the more tedious of the two movies." ScreenDaily: "[...] a supremely uneasy drama about a family trapped in a decaying Surrey house." |

I saw this a few months ago. Go figure, my area that rarely gets anything this small.
I walked away quite impressed by it. It's a fairly basic story but the craftsmanship is top tier. I would say the direction and cinematography are the real stars of this, but that would be a disservice to Coon and Law. The two leads create some riveting scenes. I also recently watched The Sinner season 2. I only say that because Carrie Coon was the focus of that season. She's building a solid resume. I might have to check out Fargo season 3 just for her. |
