Maybe a PS5 revision could come out to support that codec, meaning Sony needs to get off their arrogant @sses & pony up the licenses fees. ![]() ![]() |

![]() Depending on the age of film, newer ones like the high budget Marvel films look great in Dolby Vision. Not $12/month worth imo which takes effect next month so I canceled renewal. |

Heh. Welcome to my world of hate for the Disney+ app on PlayStation.
I’ve been moaning about it since the PS4. Main point is that the app on PS5 isn’t a PS5 app it is just the PS4 app running on PS5. The PS4 version of the app is absolutely awful. There’s no 4K and there’s no lossless audio. Disney even claim the app is 4K on PS and customer service has told people their set up is causing the app to limit to 1080p which is total BS. I ended up buying an Apple TV 4K and never looked back. |

Do you guys not have these apps built into your TV's? With the exception of Spotify, I'm basically app free on my PS5 because my TV runs all of it very well. Plus it frees up precious SSD space by not having them installed.

It’s got some apps like Disney but they are always gimped compared to what I can get on the Apple TV+ stuff like Atmos and not that I have it Dolby Vision. The other issue is that the OS on the TV is laggy as hell granted it wouldn’t be so much of an issue on most “modern” TVs but the Apple TV+ does lossless and spatial audio with Apple Music which is pretty much unique for its ease of use and it’s the cheapest way to access lossless and special audio. Plus it’s updated for years. Probably a hell of a lot longer than my tv is updated. I don’t think I’ve had an update in over a year and I’ve had apps actually removed from the TV because it’s end of life lol But yeah if you have a recent tv and the apps do everything you need then Apple TV+ is a luxury more than a necessity. |

No issues with Disney+ but HBO Max gives me massive problem on both PS4 and PS5. Fast forwarding and rewinding just stops working after I've been watching for a few minutes. Anyone else have issues with it?

Was glad I bought a new TV last year. I didn’t really care about Disney Plus or Apple TV at the time as much as now, but it’s a lot of Atmos and Dolby Vision content there. I’d never bother with using PS5 as a media player for streaming video personally if I can avoid it, though the Series X|S are kitted out significantly better in this regard. I found out they even play CD’s still grr Sony…

If you go to “Details” it tells you the formats it supports. In this case it’s “4K ULTRA HD” “HDR10” “DOLBY VISION” “5.1” “DOLBY ATMOS” As we can see though because I don’t have a Dolby vision TV the info under the title only shows HDR 10. Now if I go to the PS5 app (which is just the PS4 app running backwards compatibly) then under mando title it just lists HD•5.1 but if you go to “Details” it shows that it supports all the best formats so that’s how you can tell if something you are watching on Disney plus is showing in the best audio visual formats for your app of choice. It’s not exactly all Sony’s fault though it’s just Disney don’t really give a shit. Apple TV+ outputs 4K, Amazon Prime outputs 4K and Netflix outputs 4K. There’s even some 4K 60fps stuff on there too if you want to see some high frame rate content. The Disney+ app is the only one out of those 4 that’s still a native PS4 app too all the others are native PS5 apps. Although why Prime needs to be 1.28GB is beyond me the others are less than 500MB. |

The CD support is I assume a licensing issue. MS already pay or own the licence since the Xbox uses the same apps as Windows does so the support is there as standard since they use the same ecosystem which gives them an advantage over the rivals. |

That said, i came across this: https://www.psu.com/news/disney-plus...ps4-ps5-users/ Claims Disney already fixed the PS5 app to do 4K but i went and just checked the details and what it says like Mavrick suggested and nope. It's a mess and just 1080p even on the listed Ultra HD movies if using the PS5 app. Now i'm going to go re-watch on the TV app. Pardon me. |
