Hi all, I'm a new member here, I've lurked for about 6 months and have really enjoyed all your comments. Actually, so much that I decided to buy a second blu ray player/PS3.
However, I'm having an issue and hope that somebody here can point me in the right direction. I already own a BDP-S301 and just bought a PS3 tonight. My issue pertains to the 1080p setting. For some reason the PS3 won't accept it. I'm running HDMI from the PS3 through an Onkyo 705 to a Samsung LN-T4665F and have used the 1080p setting from the S301 with great success. What am I doing wrong here? Any suggestions!?!? |

Sorry about that.
When I check the 1080p box during a custom setup, my tv blanks out and when an image re-appears, its extremely pixelated. Following the 30 second period, the setting reverts back to 1080i so I can see the main menu or xmb I believe it's called. |

I just tried to post and it didn't seem to go through, so forgive me if i post this twice.
I'm using a HDMI 1.3 cat. 2 cable from monoprice.com, which worked fine with my S301. I just connected the HDMI from the PS3 to my TV and checked the 1080p box again and it produced the same image. I receive a message on the tv saying "not supported mode" before it switches back. Almost forgot, the firmware is updated to version 2.10 as well. |

No, I don't. The only thing hooked up to my PS3, at the moment, is the HDMI to my tv, power cord and the ethernet cable going through my router.
I'm pretty confused as to why this is happening. I'm pretty confident my tv is a true 1080p which my previous player seemed to corroborate. I find it hard to believe that I picked up a rare lemon, but I'm not sure what else it could be? I was actually turned to monoprice from reading one of your posts a few months back...i've been lurking for quite awhile. ![]() |

instead of selecting 1080p yourself, let the PS3 automatically select it for you...
if all else fails, try turning off (flip switch in the back). Flip it back on, so its in standby. Press and hold the console power button until it beeps twice. Last edited by crackinhedz; 01-27-2008 at 04:28 AM. |

Tried that and re-ran the automatic setup and it flashes a few times, an image appears for a brief second that asks me if i want to keep the 1080p settings then the screen blanks out and says "not supported mode".
In between the flashes i do see a series of green lines that present only only the left side of the page. Also, when I do see the xmb for the brief moment, its incredibly snowy. I'm not sure if that helps any further.... |

When I let the PS3 automatically select it, it reverts back to the 480 image.

I don't think so, the only options to change anything are in regard to color, tone, etc. I do have it set to the just scan option, which is supposed to present 1:1 pixel ratio. Also, nothing has changed in my setup from when I had the S301 connected, which worked great four hours ago.
Do you think an exchange might be in order? Just tried different HDMI slots with no luck. Last edited by Synaptic Reality; 01-27-2008 at 04:40 AM. |

sounds like it could be a faulty HDMI output on the PS3?
...one last shot... in the xmb: Settings - System Settings - Restore Default Settings after this I have no other ideas...maybe an exchange? |

no go, it seems to read that it can output 1080p signal it just won't. Again, after the 30 seconds it reverts back to 480. I'll drop by best buy tomorrow to exchange for another one, I do hope its a bad HDMI in the PS3. I still have the S301 to support my blu-ray library that I've collected
![]() Thanks for your time tonight, I really appreciate it! |

have you tried setting the sammy to 16x9 picture size instead of "just scan"?
or try turning off 1080p/24 Hz in the PS3: Settings - BD / DVD Settings - BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI) - OFF ...shouldnt really affect the xmb, but its an idea. Last edited by crackinhedz; 01-27-2008 at 05:22 AM. |

When I went from the PS3 to the tv, I tried both HDMI cords and came up with the same result. And I don't have any other HDMI's, unfortunately. However, given that they both seemed to work fine with the previous blu ray player, would there be enough difference between the S301 and the PS3 to reveal this issue?
Just switched to 16x9 and that didn't help either. Last edited by Synaptic Reality; 01-27-2008 at 05:24 AM. |
