Sony Pictures All Is True (2018)

Sony currently is scheduled to release the Sony Pictures Classic of All Is True on Blu-ray on August 13, 2019.

Quote:
The year is 1613, and Shakespeare is acknowledged as the greatest writer of the age. But disaster strikes when his renowned Globe Theatre burns to the ground. Devastated, Shakespeare returns to Stratford, where he must face a troubled past and a neglected family. Haunted by the death of his only son, Hamnet, he struggles to mend the broken relationship with his wife and daughters. In so doing, he is ruthlessly forced to examine his own failings as a husband and father.

Hallelujah!!!! This film is absolutely gorgeous, I saw it twice. Once when it was first released last December for Oscar consideration in NY and LA, and again when it was re-released for its general release in May, with a Branagh Q & A.

It's only getting a DVD release in many other markets, like the UK, and I was terrified that would be the case here too.

Super excited to see it's coming to BD!!!!

The photography is exquisite in this film, lots of scenes set in historic homes lit only by candlelight, and also beautiful views of the English countryside.

The film itself is a brilliantly imagined portrait of Shakespeare's later years. I will offer a tiny bit of caution though, it helps a lot to know at least the basics of his life and those times, the film is very much made for Shakespeare buffs, it's not like Shakespeare in Love, aimed at a mass audience, it assumes a fair amount of knowledge. If you have that, however, I can almost guarantee you'll love it, as I did!

Hello Sony. If this has any 4K elements it’s deserving of a 4K UHD release.
I’m still interested and look forward to a review from a Bluray.com reviewer. Hopefully by Pro-B.

It's a miracle we're getting a BD, it's one of the few released anywhere for this title. There was never a chance of a 4K, I think the only Sony Classics title to ever get a 4K was Crouching Tiger, and that's a fluke outlier box office behemoth among their titles.

Sweet. Heard this was going to DVD only, but glad to see that's not the case.

Oddballs ones like this will come to Blu ray eventually.

Little Hours was DVD only for about a year and so was Death of Stalin; regretted buying both on DVD because I could not wait. Mind you, PQ on DVD was still very good.

I want to watch this but I could wait for the BD/4K.

I'm not sure what you mean about Death of Stalin. It is still DVD-only in the US. I had to import the region-locked British BD.

If anyone has this yet, do you know if it is region locked to Region A? Would be good if it wasn't, as they haven't released a blu anywhere else, but that hasn't stopped Sony locking the disc before.

I haven't checked the disc, but the back cover says it is region free.

That's great, thank you. Previous Sony discs have matched the sleeve, so I'll take a chance on it.

dose the 'Special Features; Q&A with Kenneth Branagh' include why isn't this on Blu in UK when W.S. was an English man? and Why is the Blu mod, don't people realise who the cast or w.s. are?

What's wrong with this MOD?

- "Visiting Stratford: The Story Behind All Is True" - 8:25
featurette produced by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust interviewing various historians about the historical suppositions in the film

- "Behind the Scenes: Becoming Shakespeare" 1:38
EPK piece about Branagh's makeup/prosthetics

- "Behind the Scenes: Judi Dench" 1:32
EPK piece about Dench's connection to her role

Is this a BD-R? Or a pressed disc? The liner artwork is certainly laser-printed, but the disc itself, though it has generic white artwork, looks professional enough. It doesn't look like a DVD-R on the back. All the Warner Archive MOD BDs I have are pressed, I believe, and these Sony ones don't look all that different. But maybe I just don't know what to look for. If you can help explain the difference, that would be great, thanks!

These are pressed Blu-ray discs, but maybe I misunderstood what you were saying.

That's what I thought. These Sony MOD discs are pressed, they just have laser-printed inserts and generic white disc artwork with only the film's title on them.

Since these niche titles would never get a physical release otherwise, I'm more than happy with this format, which is the same as Warner Archive and Universal use for their MOD Blu-Rays.
