Blu-ray Grand Duke

It's a simple question. If you had two cars (more if necessary) to see duke it out in a film, what would they be? I know I have been thinking about my titanic duel ever since I was a teenager with a subscription to Car and Driver. There have been faster cars, but these two fascinated me like no two others back in the day. Complete polar opposites. A German pure bred. It was a psychotic death trap that, in the wrong hands, would kill you. Stay off that accelerator in the corners! Then their is the American. A buffed up muscle car straight out of a time machine. It defied logic, as well as many GM execs, who were less than enthused that Buick built a car that could smoke their precious Vette (a behind the scenes no-no at the time).
BONUS: Name the song or music you would like to be playing during the chase! The belligerents: 1987 Buick GNX VS 1986 Porsche 911 Turbo ![]() Song: "Lady Strange" by Def Leppard |

The original Gone in 60 Seconds wasn't a great film in terms of story and acting, but featured a 40 minute chase scene with a classic yellow muscle car as the cops were in hot pursuit. Reminds me of the game Driver from PS1.
The Terminator series highway chases are often some of the best in terms of crashes and carnage. Really epic stuff in T1, T2, T3. Ronin had a cool chase in the wrong direction. The Matrix Freeway chase was epic. The Raid 2 has a really good, epic car chase. Mission Impossible 5 with the motorcycles was fun. Some Jackie Chan movies have some epic car chases. The freeway pursuit in Winter Soldier was cool, leading into that street battle. The chase where Samuel L. Jackson had to get his SUV too was great. Duel, one of Spielberg's first movies is a slow but interesting chase movie. The Transporter films with Jason Statham have some good car chases. Mad Max films have some interesting chases. And more... Biggest disappointment ever for a car chase movie? Quentin Tarentino's Deathproof. That chase felt flat and not very exciting compared to other classic car chases. |

Good point.
The 007 James Bond movies are also known for some epic vehicle chases. There are so many but I know I'm forgetting something important. Drive had a decent car chase scene after the robbery. The Italian Job (original film) had an epic chase. Original Gone in 60 Seconds |

I'll have to think about my ultimate car chase scene.
As for existing films, my favorite is, without a doubt, the car chase from Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (as seen below in its english dub form) My second favorite is the film Redline, followed by Mad Max: Fury Road. Last edited by AreaFive; 08-05-2021 at 01:56 AM. |
