An edition I remember well was the one which closed the sixth series, about Charles Bronson. Critic Neil Norman was very negative about 10 to Midnight, calling it repugnant. Being a bit biased as I'm a fan of Bronson's films, but to say I disagreed with what he said is putting it mildly.

The one film of his I'd like to get hold of on blu-ray is St. Ives, which I saw on TV many moons ago and I think is a very good film. |

I remember a long time ago, there was a double feature DVD release of two Bronson films (think it was a release from the States) of St. Ives with Telefon. Wish these two would get Blu-ray releases.
And I remember well seeing those regular prices for VHS releases of films (the good old days when they had the original MGM/UA logo at the beginning (referring to The Living Daylights). |

The Warner titles were the most expensive. Most others including RCA/Columbia, MGM/UA Home Video, CIC Video (which released Paramount and Universal titles) and CBS/Fox Video were normally between £10 and about £12. Only the budget independent labels, such as The Video Collection, were less at around £7 or thereabouts. I started working in 1985, so you can probably guess where a lot of my spare money was spent. ![]() Going back to your original post about "Discovering Film", this could well attract more viewers now that Sky Arts is available free-to-air. |

I haven't checked Sky On Demand for it in ages, but I remember catching up on the majority of the editions I wanted to see. There has also been a sort of spin-off series called The Directors, and some of the film critics who contribute to Discovering: Film have appeared on one or two specials. I remember watching one a couple of Christmasses ago (about Christmas-themed films).

The new edition of Discovering on Sky Arts next week is about Meryl Streep. I hope Silkwood is included (it's a film I still haven't got on Blu-ray. Had hoped Powerhouse would do a release of it. I know there is the Kino release in the States).

Have downloaded and watched (via Catch-up) a few editions of Discovering: Film recently. Last night, I watched editions about actors Alain Delon, Joseph Cotton and Michael Douglas.
Got an edition about Roy Scheider left to watch, and I may watch tonight's new edition about Ronald Colman. |

A new series of The Directors (sort of a spin-off of Discovering: Film) starts on Sky Arts later this week.
I watched some of the first series of it, but nothing since. This new series is the sixth. Had a look at some of the editions from the fifth series (available on Sky Catch-up), and there are a few I'm interested in, including one about David Lynch. The first edition of the new series of The Directors is about Spike Lee. Last edited by OceanBlue; 01-05-2021 at 12:29 AM. |

This week's new edition of The Directors is about Mike Nichols.
Have watched in the past few days, editions about Mervyn LeRoy, David Lynch, John Sturges and Sidney Lumet. The David Lynch edition I'll very likely watch again. Thoroughly enjoyed that one (especially the sections about Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks and Fire Walk with Me, The Straight Story and Mulholland Drive). |

This coming Thursday night's new edition of The Directors is about Ron Howard.
In the last few days, have watched editions about James L. Brooks, John Frankenheimer, Sergio Leone and Otto Preminger. Enjoyed them on the whole. |
