Default AT LONG LAST LOVE... at long last, Blu

At Long Last Love Blu-ray

Let's start the dialogue on this one, shall we?

I saw this on HBO in 75 because it came and went too quickly for me to catch it when it came out in theatres in 74. I liked it, I had already bought and liked the double LP soundtrack album (Sony owns it now), and the album "CYBILL DOES IT... to COLE PORTER" (great, by the way - Universal Music has the rights). Neither of these has been made available on CD, MOD or download, but you can certainly ASK those companies for them.

Years later, I met a Canadian fellow who was a serious enough fan of ALLL to have collected three different cuts of the film on videotape. Each had things and was missing things the other didn't. He copied two of them for me and was trying to assemble a complete version when we lost touch. This was long before the internet, and consumers had only simple VHS to deal with.

There is an interesting, fairly recent interview documentary running now on YouTube, in which Bogdanovich talks about his entire career, including AT LONG LAST LOVE and how it was changed between studio preview and theatrical release, which he came to regret. He mentions having recut the film again for cable, which seems to be why many people who have only seen it on cable did not think it was such a bad movie.

That doc also mentions the recent developments, in which a more complete version of ALLL, which was quietly guarded and put into circulation by a fan of the film at the studio, has come to light, and due to attention it got streaming on Netflix and on cable from Fox Movie Channel, Bogdanovich contacted the studio, which agreed to finally release the film on Blu Ray, with some minor adjustments from the director.

There is an article online describing a disinterested third party's reaction to having seen the movie for the first time, at a screening of Bogdanovich's new cut at the studio. http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/motion-c...tory-behind-it

We heard that boutique label Twilight Time would be handling the title (why do companies that focus on older catalog titles have such depressing names? Twilight Time, Wounded Bird? What next? Last Supper? Lame Horse or Elephant Graveyard?) ALLL was to still be on Fox label, and not a limited release, but handled exclusively by TT's distributor Screen Archives Entertainment. Hmmm.

But ALLL has been MIA in SAE's website all this time, so we were SOL. Then it was taken off TT's schedule, and they would only coyly respond to inquiries for a new release date by saying news was "coming." As much as TT tends to talk about their upcoming and current releases, their silence on this one spoke volumes.

So now we see AT LONG LAST LOVE... at long last, available for preorder, at a pretty great price for a Blu Ray, not on SAE but on Amazon. Release date June 4. I suggest pre-ordering for the best price.

In the meantime, does anyone have any favorite songs or scenes they hope are included? Any supplements you wish for?
