Michael Keaton (Night Shift, Mr. Mom, Beetlejuice) shines as whip-smart Pennsylvania wheeler-dealer Hunt Stevenson in this rousing comedy by director Ron Howard (Splash, Cocoon, Apollo 13)! When Hunt persuades a Japanese automotive firm to reopen his home town’s defunct auto factory, he’s a hero. But when the Japanese hire him to enforce their policies among his American co-workers, he goes from hero to zero in seconds flat. It’s manpower vs. horsepower on the assembly line. Salami vs. sushi in the cafeteria. And a head-on cultural collision that’s enough to upset the world’s balance of laughter. See how really crazy things can get when Michael Keaton’s in charge in Gung Ho—co-starring Gedde Watanabe, George Wendt, John Turturro, Mimi Rogers and Clint Howard!
Quote:
When a western Pennsylvania auto plant is acquired by a Japanese company, brokering auto worker Hunt Stevenson (Michael Keaton) faces the tricky challenge of mediating the assimilation of two clashing corporate cultures. At one end is the Japanese plant manager (Gedde Watanabe) and the sycophant (Sab Shimono) who is angling for his position. At the other, a number of disgruntled long-time union members (George Wendt, John Turturro) struggle with the new exigencies of Japanese quality control.

Haven't seen this in ages and don't remember much except that one scene where the car falls apart on Michael Keaton. Oh man that crap was hilarious. Look forward to seeing this again.

Keeping fingers crossed this is the correct 2.35:1 ratio. Wasn't this cropped on DVD ?

Still need to get around to the digital copy I purchased years ago on Vudu. This was a title I remember seeing the vhs box on the shelves during the video store era.

Their customer interactions are really something.

It's more like "When have we released anything where we admitted it was in the wrong ratio?"

When they add an "especially" qualifying statement after it, doesn't that kinda negate the "when have we released"? Kinda not needed if you've never done it period. It's like they are aware of the couple of titles where people claimed the image was stretched and the AR was wrong.

Just because of this and other releases, I kinda want Kino to get the 4K rights to Explorers. Maybe that geometry issue that was there from the beginning will finally get fixed by them.

Also, I just checked my Vudu digital copy and it is 2.35 AR. I haven’t watched this in a long time so I can’t remember if it was 1.78 before. Also, it is not an impressive HD master. A lot of reddish skin tones.

'Bout time it came to Blu. Kino just had to pull everyone together in a wonderful montage to get it remastered and released.

Blu-ray.com article claims it's a 4K remaster. Which you would hope is true since a new HD remaster when it's already in HD would be odd.

And with this every Ron Howard movie is on Blu-ray except for GTA and his streaming movies.

Paramount should have released it themselves on Blu-ray sometime in the 2010's. Not sure why they decided not to.

Glad it's finally getting released.

You would think Kino would have stated 4K scan in their announcement, unless they intentionally withheld it so people didn't question why they're not doing a 4K release as well.
