Default Speakers for SONY STR-DG710, help?

I am thinking of buying the SONY STR-DG710 reciever and hook up my PS3 and Samsung Full HDTV to it. My question is, do i need special speakers for this or can i hook up any 5.1 speakers.
Could someone also recommend cheap speakers that would go with it?

I have the SONY STR-DG710. It replaced a much older Sony receiver. I plugged in my existing speakers (three are Sony, two - the front left and right - are Bose). I was initially disappointed by the sound, but after purchasing a self-powered 200 watt Sony sub-woofer the audio quality was sensational.

I cannot recommend any "cheap" speakers. Just make sure you buy speakers that can handle the power output of the SONY STR-DG710. I do recommend a powered subwoofer. It makes a world of difference.

Good luck.

What do you mean by cheap? Don't skimp on your speakers. Try www.av123.com. I am a satisfied owner. Check out their x-series.

First off DON'T GET THE 710, it has no HDMI switching.
For about $50 more you can get the 810, which has 3 HDMI inputs and one output.
For mydaughter's home theater, we used the STR-DG 810 ($318 delivered from Abt.com), and the Bostom acoustics MCS100 5.1 speaker system. It has a nice center speaker, 4 surrounds, and a 10" sub complete with LFE cable.(Amazon.com) If you can afford a bit more, the MCS130 has larger 3 front speakers.
Her setup sounds great, and all interconnects are via HDMI.
Good Luck!

Thanks for your input. Could someone still tell me why HDMI switching is important?

Read my comments on Paradigm and other Canadian speakers in another thread.

I think he ment to say the 710 does not process HDMI audio...meaning no 5.1 or 7.1 PCM.

The 810 or higher is the best bet.

I thought the 710 could get hd audio, it just doesn't decode it?

I made the same mistake! The 710 is terrible! you have to get the 810 so you can do 5.1 PCM and DDTHD and DTSMAHD all 5.1 just make sure when you plug in your BD player you set the Auto Detect to PCM...you will understand once you read the manual. (BTW the only way you can get DDTHD and DTSMAHD is with a player that Decodes them.)
