Default Lag with Apple TV?

I’ve recently noticed that the movies I play through my TV app, as well as the content I play on apps such as Peacock and Hulu, have a one or two second delay from when I press PLAY to when the sound kicks in.

I’m not really missing out on anything since it’s just studio introduction but still, not sure what’s causing this or what to do to fix it.

I also notice some lag while navigating the menus. Again, not sure what caused this other than my Apple TV syncing with my recent purchases from my PC.

Anyone else experience these issues?

It has started doing that with me too.

I noticed it a couple weeks ago when I was watching YELLOWSTONE on Peacock. Everything was fine and then commercials had sound delayed by one or two seconds. I assumed it was just the commercials but then I noticed it on other apps and my movies.

It's funny how iOS software updates could fix the large library issue but then break it again on the next update. LOL

Why do I say that? I believe the least they could do would be to set the cache at the same rate as they do with the Movies app so that large libraries will actually load, and actually load the latest purchases every time you opened the app. My library doesn't load in the ATV app/Library. (Too big, I learned on reddit when someone else with a large library was experiencing the same issues.)

Not sure if it's a cache issue. Have you tried logging out/logging back in? Going as far as resetting the device? Do you have more than one ATV? Are they both experiencing the same problem? Do you live near a C0stc0? You could buy a new ATV and try that out to see if it might be a hardware issue with your device. I've experienced my issue now for at least a year. I have 2 ATV 4K, and it's the same on both. I only run beta on the 2021 ATV 4K, for no other reason than hoping they'll fix the library issue, and I can use it to sort through 4K movies. It's the only way to filter "4K only" titles. Anyways.

If your issue is related to mine (large library causes issues with the velocity of the ATV app.) Our issues can't be high on their bug list. I mean how many people own as many movies as we do? Not many.
If Apple removed the library section how would people browse their purchases? I don’t understand how you have come to this conclusion.

Those without ATV devices, can keep the Library feature. The ATV app/Library seems to work just fine for some reason, as long as it's not on an ATV device. (That's probably the most annoying thing about this.)

Scottie, are you using a wireless speaker set-up? (Like Sonos, for example.) Just wondering if it might need recalibration.
I have a soundbar with an optical cable from TV to soundbar.

I’ll check for updates on it and restore my ATV to factory settings if necessary.

Cable TV plays fine. It’s just that initial lag bit when starting a show or movie on ATV or right when a commercial plays midway through a program (since I’m not paying premium fees for streaming apps).

Sheesh. That was a fast response. It didn't even pick up my edit.

But no, I'm not experiencing any issues with my cable TV. It merely occurs when I start a movie or TV show from the Apple TV, or when the program is interrupted with an ad.

Part of me does wonder if it is my actual TV (2017 Sony 4K), because often times I will have to hard reset my TV when I turn on my Apple TV because the colors will be extremely muted on the Apple TV.

I'm constantly having to adjust my a/v sync on my AVR. I never had any issues before so I would assume it's some kind of software issue.

What is considered a large library?

I don’t have any lag when browsing mine.

I have over 1000 titles in mine and it constantly freezes up when I'm scrolling through it.

I have more than that and no problems scrolling.

A few times I have noticed that the artwork can be slow to appear but scrolling and selecting is never an issue.

I’m starting to realize that maybe it’s my soundbar giving out.

Does anyone have issues with sound during their movies? It’s as if one of the speakers briefly shuts off and the sound gets muffled. It eventually corrects itself, but I wonder if this is my issue.

Do you have a 2nd TV, or a friend you could test your soundbar with? Using only the TV speakers, do you still experience the issues?

It's not too late to ask Santa for another stimulus check so you can pick up a Sonos Arc...
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll test them tomorrow!

I am noticing these exact issues. Brief audio delay at start and delay when navigating menus. I’m also experiencing brief intermittent audio drops as well. None of these occurred prior to the most recent update for me.

The artwork has always been the case for me. But I think since tvOS 15 it will get hung up when I’m scrolling through the library. It basically freezes and you have to wait. Sometime it will do it again while scrolling. Kind of a pain.

Don’t use a sound bar. Have the AppleTV going directly to an AVR and then the image pass thru to a projector. Never had any audio drop outs prior to the recent update.

I’m going to switch out the HDMI cable and do a factory reset to see if that fixes the issue.
