Rush finally in the R&R HoF

It's about time , it's great for the band but the RRHOF just sucks plain with there choices .

I have long been a vocal critic of the RRHOF, and the long overdue induction of one of rock's premier outfits, regardless of nationality, is a travesty and a mockery of the selection process. The RRHOF is little more than an endeavour to feed Jann Wenner's ego, and he abused his position and influence to refrain deserving artists from being nominated due to personal bias. He and the RRHOF can burn for eternity, for all I care. I love all manners of rock & roll, but the RRHOF is dead to me.

Rush is bigger than the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

Good for Rush for getting some more well-deserved recognition, but I think the Hall of Fame gained more than Rush did.

They deserve to be in there.....and should have been a long time ago. But I can say that about half the people in there do not deserve to be in the "Rock n Roll" HOF. They should rename it the "Popular Music" Hall of Fame. Way way way too many "pop" acts in the "Rock n Roll" HOF!

Hey buddy, good link, that was my first Rush song I learned (most probably the only one I could pull off anyways lol) remember when that first aired, people were calling to hear the latest Zep song. These guys did it all, with integrity, never a bad word on the band members (well if you put aside the few Lifeson goofs). They were and still are what R&R is about. In my top 5 concerts of all time, they occupy at least 2 slots

It was their 1st big hit and got the ball rolling. I believe "The Buzzard" out of Cleveland was the first to air it and the rest is history. I'm only going by an old, dazed memory but I believe the boys from Toronto first spread their wings on a Cleveland radio station. "Working Man" is still my favourite Rush tune.

Wow Bros., that is high praise to put 2 of their shows in your Top 5 (Awesome). I've only seen them once..."A Farewell to Kings" tour at Maple Leaf Gardens.

Now for the love of god they need to do the right thing and get KISS in there! It is absolutely disgraceful that one of America's all time biggest bands is still not in! Someone on that committee must have an agenda to keep them out because IMO it shouldn't even be debatable! Their worldwide commercial success, their heavy influence on other bands, not to mention totally revolutionizing the live show and how a band promotes and markets themselves. It absolutely befuddles me that KISS is not in the hall of fame!

I can understand Public Enemy being admitted. They had a large following with rock and metal fans, and toured with groups like Primus, Anthrax and Sisters Of Mercy back in the day. The "Bring The Noize" collab with Anthrax was one of the first rap/metal hybrids ever.

But yes, Rush is one of my favorite bands and I am glad they made it in. How about Deep Purple next?

I'm glad they made it as well as they have been my favorite live band since the late '70s. Recognition well deserved, however in all honesty the HOF is a joke so it doesn't really matter to me who's in and who's not.

I'm reminded of the controversy between the RRHOF and Axl Rose earlier this year, when Axl didn't appear with his former bandmates during the induction ceremony. People were quick to call him a whiner and being petty for his no-show, but regardless of the reasons, he asked legitimate questions regarding the HOF. From his letter to the city of Cleveland, GN'R fans and the RRHOF:

I still don’t exactly know or understand what the Hall is or how or why it makes money, where the money goes, who chooses the voters and why anyone or this board decides who, out of all the artists in the world that have contributed to this genre, officially “rock” enough to be in the Hall?

This isn’t an attack. These are genuine issues I don’t have enough verified information on to have more than rough ideas.

From an October 2012 interview in USA Today on the same subject:

Skipping the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction: "It wasn't painful to not be there. It was a beating to deal with all the pressure of feeling I was supposed to be there and deciding what to do. I try to be respectful about getting an honor or recognition, but I don't really know what the Rock Hall actually is. In my experience with the people who run it, I don't see it having to do with anything other than them making money."

Do I think that Rush should have followed in Axl's footsteps? To a certain extent, I don't, but if they had snubbed the invitation, I would have fully supported their decision to do so. As mrr1 stated, the band is bigger than the HOF, and I'm in favour of them earning increased recognition; anything that opens the doors to a larger audience is never a bad thing. Still, it doesn't change my opinion of the RRHOF and what it stands for (hint: it has nothing to do with the artists)

Now do I believe that the guys thought to themselves they should of been inducted a long time ago (if I'm not mistaken they've been eligible since '99), hell yea. Will I watch the ceremony, most probably, again because of them and Heart. Does that change my mind of the HOF, hey I stopped reading Rolling Stone ages ago.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame committee is just full of picky a-holes They always have a habit for snubbing bands like Yes and Deep Purple that helped form the popular music genres of today while letting people like Madonna and Public Enemy in.

Glad to see Rush finally get inducted though. It's about freaking time!

Purple for sure and whether you like them or not, KISS deserves entry. I like the band and their record sales don't lie.
