Love Exposure (Sion Sono) - 6th August 2012

Third Window Films are releasing Love Exposure on BluRay on the 6th August 2012. No word on any video/audio specs yet but it looks like this release will carry over the hour long making of documentary and include the 40 minutes of deleted scenes that were missing from the DVD release.

Love Exposure Blu-ray REVIEW

Having grown up in a devout Christian family, Yu (Takahiro Nishijima) has always been a well-behaved kid. After his mother dies, his priest father is seduced by a woman who breaks his heart, causing him to torment Yu by forcing him to confess his sins on a daily basis. Of course, being a fairly normal kid, Yu has no legitimate sins to confess. To appease his increasingly demanding father, Yu is determined to become a true sinner, eventually training to become an expert at sneak upskirt photography. Pornography being the one sin no priest can overlook, Yu gets the attention he s been so desperately seeking from his dad.

One day while hanging out with his fellow sinner pals but dressed like Sasori as punishment for being on the losing end of a bet Yu meets a beautiful girl named Yoko (Hikari Mitsushima). Their first meeting is a glorious one, beginning with an all-out street brawl and ending with a kiss. There are only two problems: she thinks he s a woman and a devious cult leader named Aya (Sakura Ando) is carefully manipulating both of their lives.

The gif you just posted is making Avast very unhappy Anyway if you're pointing out the strange-ness of the plot clearly you're unfamiliar with Sono, this movies actually (albeit a little loosely) based on a true story

This was a great cooky film, don't know whether I'd watch it more than once, but it's good it's coming to Blu

I've had this pre-ordered since it was available. I didn't know it was going to have all those deleted scenes...that's great news. Can't wait to see them.

I got word from Third Window film, and this edition will be a 2-disc set.

Disc 1:
- NEW HD transfer supervised by Sion Sono on a dual-layer blu-ray.

Disc 2 (DVD):
- 1 hour long Making Of (same as the old DVD)
- Interviews with Sion Sono and person who the film is based on.
- Deleted and extended scenes.
- Sakura Ando deleted and extended scenes.
- Hikari Mitsushima deleted and extended scenes.
- Zero Church deleted scene.

Pretty gutted at the special features being all on DVD, but I'll give it a pass as it's clearly a newer indie company

Looks like a BD is being released in the U.S. with that cover by Olive Films.

Now to decide which version to get!

The UK release of Love Exposure has been pushed back to August 13th due to a manufacturing delay.

If you have to decide, I presume you have a region free player. I would go for Third Eye Window's release over Olive Films release due to Olive Film's track record of including no or next to no special features. Third Eye Window have a great track record so far and they're including some excellent special features so I would go with them

Plus Third Window have had a few problems recently and have had to pull out of cinema distribution, which is a real shame, but even more of a reason to support them.

Just preordered for £11.44 from Hive. Can't wait, this is probably the first time I've preordered a blu-ray.

I decided to use some points I'd earned at CD Japan and get the Japanese BD. It's region-free and has English subtitles. No extras, but I have the Third Window DVD. I do own a region-free player, but given the choice, I'd rather have a copy I can play anywhere.

Olive always seems to use 25gb discs. I won't be surprised if they put all 4 hours on a single layered disc and don't include any extras.

The original Third Window DVD release doesn't have the deleted scenes or half hour interview with Sono and the person the movie is based on, neither does the Japanese BluRay, so you're missing out and spending more?

Like I said, I'd prefer a copy that's not region locked. I have the region B BDs of Cold Fish and Guilty of Romance, and it's a bit of an annoyance to have to watch them on a particular player. I was able to watch some of the deleted scenes on YouTube. Who knows - maybe I'll double dip on the Third Window Blu-ray later on after the price has come down a bit.
