Default Dirty Dancing 4k Collectors Limited Edition From Via Vision

Looks like Via Vision are releasing what I think is their first 4k release.

Dirty Dancing: Collector’s Limited Edition – SteelBook + 3D Lenticular Hardcase (4K + 2 Blu-ray)

https://viavision.com.au/shop/dirty-...-4k-2-blu-ray/

Surprised they didn't add this to their Imprint line considering the premium price they're asking.

I'm all for buying local to support the 4K market, but this pricing is a little absurd. AUD$99.95 RRP and pre order pride of AUD$89.95 is . Just give me a normal priced standard bluray please, I don't care about Steelbook or this Lenticular Hardcover. And if people are in the market for the Steelbook import it from Zavvi for a much cheaper price.

I think they really missed the ball here for their first 4K release.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the steelbook Imprint teased and they decided a steelbook wouldn’t fit into the line.

I feel the same. The only reason I can see why they're trying to justify the extra price, is the two discs of supplements, some of which aren't on the U.S. release. And the fancy schmancy cover. If they don't release a more barebones 4k release soon, I will get the US 4k. I would prefer to support local, but in this case, they're making me import. I mean $40 Australian versus $90.. Wow.

The UK one has age ratings logos printed on the clear slip cover (I checked 'unboxing' videos on youtube).
Via Vision titles are usually a little cheaper at JB as well, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was $80-85 there, you can then take advantage of sales, JB perks offers and discounted gift cards from the supermarket. Don't pay attention to the price that they cross out on their webpage, everyone should know that (based on their other titles). So I would just wait to see if JB sells it and at what price.

There have been recent basic steelbook releases that sold out quickly that were $50 like Morbius and Spiderman. Some of them will be sold to collector's outside of Australia as well. Considering it is a 3d lenticular hardcase with a steelbook then it is better value than some of the other collector's editions like Flash Gordon, Akira, Weathering With You (that one was $109 at JB and $125 at Sanity and sold out).

At the end of the day if you don't like the product and/or the price then just don't buy it. The market will have the final say.

The thing is Umbrella released The Babadook 4K and Whiplash 4K last year in standard versions, it has now been nearly 12 months and no further releases from them, did you support these releases? even during b1g1f? I did (I didn't have them yet). Maybe the market didn't like these cheaper basic versions (or Umbrella just got lazy) because now Umbrella is releasing BD collector's editions for $75 on their website.

I don't think you realise how exorbitant the price is for a local boutique distributor to bring a 4K title into the local market. Seriously, try contacting Technicolor Australia and finding a quote for a run of 2000 4K discs. Adding the tat and selling it at a premium price gives VV a better chance of recouping that investment. Remember, Second Sight recouped their investment for Dawn of the Dead 4K with the massive, expensive box-set, and that's the only reason they could release a standard edition at a better price.

If you don't want to bite, that's cool, but don't be one of those on this forum in a few months bemoaning about such and such a title not getting a local 4K release.
