What do you think about Soul Media / SMD?
I think they have rights for many good titles and have also released those but their releases are usually poor. Most of the time their Blu-rays have 1080i 50 Hz video while 1080p 24 Hz masters exist. Encodes usually have artifacts. Most of the time audio is also only Dolby Digital 2.0 or 5.1 while lossless tracks exist. Why release catalog titles at all if the quality is sh*t? I can't think that any others would buy catalog titles except the collectors. And collectors like their PQ and AQ without this kind of flaws. One of the worst examples is the U-571: Sandrew Metronome disc with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 existed and Soul Media should have the master for it available as they bought Sandrew. But they released the movie with Dolby Digital 2.0 instead. ![]() Don't they have staff that know better about 1080p 24 Hz and lossless audio in Blu-rays? It's not like they don't have licenses to use DTS-HD Master Audio for example as some titles have it. And still, they could release the movie with LPCM anytime. Just bought Convoy couple of days ago. At least it has LPCM 2.0 audio but the video is 50 Hz interlaced though Universal Sony released it couple of years ago with 24 Hz video. |
