Default Favorite Mission Impossible film?

Just saw all 3 Mission Impossible films this week and loved all 3. Would have to say the 3rd is my favorite though.

I saw all 3 at the theater and I'm looking forward to seeing the 4th one. My favorite is M:I3 (with the first one following closely behind). I haven't seen the second one in a long time, but I remember being disappointed by it.

Yeah, I've seen all three of them as well, multiple times...and even after 15 years, I still think the first one is the best of them. The second tried really hard, but somehow it just felt "off" to me, and by the time "M:I-3" came out, I'd lost a serious amount of respect for Tom Cruise, so that really hampered my enjoyment a lot. Plus, each film is so drastically different, that continuity is pretty much nonexistent, aside from the characters of Ethan Hunt & Luther Stickell.

Thumbs up

3,1,2. I saw 2 on its opening day. wasn't impressed actually. Didn't like the ambiance. I thought 3 was very good. Sonically impressive as well. The original had a most impressive theme tune. I do like that one a lot.

My favourite is the 1st, it didn't have many action scenes but the story and the plot twists attract me
The 2nd has many great action scenes (of course, it's directed by John Woo), it's good. the 3rd one was good, too.

Gotta say I think all 3 are excellent but vote for the second one only because of Thandie Newton, she was so hot in it...

My favorite are the TV episodes. End of thread.
If you're still disputing "Well, the third was almost as good as the first!", I suspect your generation's cultural background has some Instant Netflix to rent.

In the meantime, here--THIS is what we're talking about:

Loved the 1st, really liked the 3rd, HATED the 2nd. I have a feeling the 4th will be the best. Don't know why, but I do.

I think I am one of the only people who loved the 2nd one. Who dosnt love slow mo shots of doves flying (lol). But seriously i did really enjoy the 2nd film, obviously an example of style over substence but its one of the few times i thought it worked.

3rd is my favorite. Two is by far the worst but has a few things going for it. Some of the action is pretty great and then the scene they ripped right out of The Last of the Mohicans is great on repeat views because it's so ridiculous.

Default It's crazy that Mission Impossible 2 was the highest grossing movie from 2000

Can you believe it? I rewatched it last night, it's a movie that I've always enjoyed but it hasn't aged well at all and is arguably the worst entry in the series. The fact that it was the highest grossing movie of 2000 just goes to show how much the movie landscape has changed in the last 19 years. The MI movies still do great business and gross even more than MI2 did but it just seems mad that it became the most successful movie that year.

MI 2 is essentially a Tom Cruise vanity project that couldn't be more different from the first movie. of course a lot of that has to do with John Woo. You hire John Woo, you get a John Woo movie and no movie showcases this better than MI 2. There's so many painfully awkward slow mo shots and weak attempts at cool looking fight moves. Yet twenty years ago this is what connected with audiences more than any other movie that year!

I love Cruise but he was massively stroking his own ego with this movie... and it paid off hugely! lol.

Actually, more accurately, you hire John Woo, you hire his birds too

Absolutely. Every Woo trade mark is on showcase here and it's hilarious.
