Default Chopping Mall remake

Hm, I think he is missing the point.

https://www.slashfilm.com/chopping-mall-remake/

My version of CHOPPING MALL that I wrote is totally supernatural…It’s more The Fog set in an abandoned mall than it is robots. Instead of killer robots, they are these mannequins that are possessed by the souls of dead slaves that worked at the plantation that the mall was built over.”

Truthfully the idea isn't bad, but it's so far removed from Chopping Mall that it should be called something else entirely; it sounds unique enough to stand on its own.

There is a similar story in Tales from the Hood, it was a plantation house instead of a mall.

I know when I first saw Chopping Mall, I wondered why the **** the movie was about killer robots. I mean, even the soundtrack artwork features mannequins.

It worked for that segment in that film but for this one, I honestly can't get on board with that.

I'm in. I really enjoyed Chopping Mall, but I'm down for a remake without robots. Especially if this turns out to be more of a slasher.

Mannequins could be interesting, robots aren't as big as they were in 85/86

Ditching robots for ghosts? That tells me that instead of a remake, someone just wants to make a horror movie set in a shopping mall, and likes the "Chopping Mall" title.

It would be more timely now, as robot security guards are a real thing.

This could easily be done ala Westworld. That would be a better fit because this is sounding more like Poltergeist than anything else.

Well of course it has to be mannequins. The only thing in malls anymore are clothing stores and phone kiosks

If Chopping Mall had kept its original (and more appropriate) title, Killbots, this couldn't and wouldn't even be a thing...still, give Barbara Crampton and Kelli Maroney cameos and all is forgiven.

Thank you, have a nice day.

This IS NOT happening. Jim Wynorski is still part owner of this film and has not been contacted. And It doesn't sound like he'd sell anyway. He doesn't sound fond of the idea, either.

For me personally, Chopping Mall is not a good movie (not even worthy of cult status) so this is a great choice to get the remake treatment. But mannequins? Why not remake Mannequin into a horror movie instead.

Wow I like how he starts attacking people, that always works when you are trying to start a project.

I always thought Mannequin was a horror film.

The mannequin idea for a "Chopping Mall" remake is a dumb idea. Mannequins are not articulated - the neck, arms, legs and hands don't bend. How can a "possessed" mannequin chase anyone around a mall?

It would be much better if the ghosts possessed some of the actual people in the mall and went on a killing spree, but that idea has been done to death (pun intended).

The Good Guy dolls in Child's play don't have any joints either but Chucky was able to move around quite well.

Just saying, if you're going into a horror film about killer mannequin's, you should probably suspend some kind of disbelief
