Germany The Slumber Party Massacre - Shock Entertainment Mediabook

I thought I'd open this thread if anyone doing Region B purchases is interested in buying the German release of this film. In a separate forum there was mention of this release apparently coming from "the newest SHOUT Master" but I received my copy today and can't confirm that. To me it looks like the master from the standard US Amaray release in 2014.

I don't have the equipment to take proper screenshots but the 1.78:1 aspect ratio and the color grading are a dead giveaway even on a picture taken with my smartphone camera, I think. I also added two pictures of the Mediabook itself.

Hopefully this information is helpful to anyone who had considered buying the release. I've never seen the film and made a blind purchase in good faith but I'm thinking of returning it now.

I'm watching this now as I type this reply. I'm happy with the mediabook personally. I agree it's definitely the same transfer as the original SF bluray and not the newer remastered one. But it's the best region B release we've had to date. I have no complaints about the transfer. It's a decent looking bluray. You definitely couldn't class it as a bad transfer. I'd give it a solid 3.5/5 for picture quality

I would like to agree with you but it's the principle of it that's an absolute no-go.

The label spokesperson said they were using the newest master, even deliberately mentioning that the master would be the one used in the Shout steelbook (https://www.movieside.de/index.php?t...5#post-1064365) but they slap the old master onto the disc and charge 40 euros for it and that's just wrong. The old master itself isn't bad per se but it's the principle of deliberately misleading customers that angers me.

It would have been fine had they been upfront about it but what do they do? They're gaslighting buyers in another forum, wanting us to believe they took the 4K remastered master and made it brighter (while apparently also changing it back to the incorrect 1.78:1 aspect ratio instead of the 1.85:1...). They're either lying or too incompetent to realize that they don't have the newest master and that kind of behavior doesn't deserve the support.

I get you're unhappy with it. I'm just not as bothered as you clearly. Sure it would have been better had it been the newer 4k restoration. I'm happy to keep mine still though. It's the only region B bluray release to date so there's not much choice if I want something better than the horrendous full screen 4:3 ratio UK dvd

That's true, with the right expectations this release is passable but even then the pricing is pretty steep, likely due to the fact that they had a German dub made for this release specifically and with a couple releases at this price it quickly becomes a better investment to switch to a multi region Blu-ray player and import Code A releases probably.

Not really. The average Scream Factory release costs about the same as this to import with import tax and shipping on top. Especially their new steelbooks with the 4k scans

If we're sticking with Slumber Party Massacre I'd say it's not fair to compare this against the 4K Steelbook edition. Those editions are of course more expensive to import but you're getting more quality as well. My statement was meant to relate to releases like the 2013 regular Shout Factory release of this film which would have been considerably cheaper to import compared to buying this German release for 40 euros. I wouldn't even complain about the quality itself as it's a solid older master but to willfully deceive customers by announcing the 4K transfer is something nobody should tolerate/support.
