I would like to get excited, except for some reason, Dick stories don't seem to do well when translated into movies.

That Nic Cage atrocity I grant you, but that was going to be crap tailor made. Theres plenty more crap than gold, but the same could be said of Stephen King novels, Dick was a genius whose stories Hollywood treated as second class bmovies half the time, mined of the great ideas then rewritten |

Actually its a very good adaptation, there are some parts of the book that are very closely followed. And yes it famously flopped, but history has been kind to it and is now often considered one of the greatest scifi films ever made, so there's that

Ya know - the movie was just not as good as it needed to be, IMO. It just ended up being a "watch & forget". Wasnt bad by any means but feels like it fell short too.

Should we discuss A Scanner Darkly? How about The Adjustment Bureau or Paycheck?

It wasn't a bad film, though it may have gone too far out on a limb before revealing the big twist, but doing that weird rotoscoping artstyle for the film consigned it to never having more than "arthouse film" appeal. I thought that it might get an A Boy and his Dog-style revival after its stars had their second and third renaissances as famous "it" actors, but that does not seem to have happened. |
