Default Halo Movie

IESB has the entire article, but here's an excerpt:
Quote:
IESB has learned exclusively (believe me this is solid and I've confirmed it three times over with studio executives and our close ties to CAA) that one of the biggest producers in Hollywood history is currently in active negotiations to develop the feature film adaptation and no it's not Jerry Bruckheimer or Peter Jackson. It's the man behind Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones and Transformers, Mr. Steven Spielberg.

Spielberg is blown away by writer Stuart Beattie's take on the game in his script entitled HALO THE FALL OF REACH. This coupled with the fact that his Dreamworks umbrella is looking for a big tent pole to help launch their newly independant studio with distribution over at Walt Disney Pictures after losing Transformers to Paramount in the separation, it's the perfect combination.

The script also gives detailed outlines for the second movie, HALO: RISE OF THE FLOOD, which takes place entirely on the Halo ringworld, and the third and final movie, HALO: BATTLE FOR EARTH, which roughly follows the events of Halo 3, the game.

One cool advantage of this first script is that (like the shark in JAWS) you don't even see the Covenant until halfway through the movie. And because all the creatures are CGI creations, this cuts the budget down dramatically and makes a first Halo movie that much more viable. For Halo fans, it's like the prequel that provides all the answers to questions they've thought about for years. For non Halo fans, it's an exciting action movie that provides a clear, concise introduction to a world five hundred years in the future with relatable characters and a terrifying alien menace.
Good to see the wheels on this thing possibly turning again

Neil and Peter Jackson would have been perfect though!

I guess at least now we get the magic of ILM behind the effects.

Sounds good in theory, but few video games ever transfer to good movies.

I naturally get up this early because of my work schedule. But I'm also excited because in a few hours I'll be in Magic Mountain!!

I entered the AICN contest to try and get tix to the free screening of District 9 in Los Angeles. Only thing is it's on a TUESDAY.

After Indy4 I've sworn off anything new with Spielberg in charge...

Story's too complicated for just one movie though, better off doing a proper movie trilogy, planned and thought out for movie audiences rather than being Resident Evil style fan service dross.

agreed max, indy 4 definitely tainted the pedestal i've placed him on for so long (although he's still directed some fine, unforgettable movies and I'm sure has many more to go ), but then again he would only be producing this and not directing.....i think a trilogy would be the best way to go too, and it's good to see they would (hopefully) try to do so if green lighted.

I agree, squeezing it into one movie would lead to a lot of the story being cut.

Really hope this is successful.

Spielberg is perfect for this. I really hope he either directs or gets a great director to take it over if this is true. I am sure Jackson and blomkamp would have done a bang up job, but stuff happens.

hopefully he can get Tom Hanks to jump in as well, after watching 9 episodes (1 to go!) of Band of Brothers, I believe Spielberg can do a great job with the Halo movie.

This is exciting news. There is potential for this to be great. I hope they don't blow it.

Couldn't agree more.

But seeing as how he put strange stuff in his movies {like Aliens in Indy 4} does that mean that Indy will show up in the Halo movie?

wow this is great news, I didn't want Jackson making the Halo movie, I actually don't like Jackson that much but it looks like District 9 going to be great. I love most of Spielberg's films, he has directed some of my favorite films (Jaws, Private Ryan). I'm a huge fan of the game and even though I don't like the fact that Halo's movie has always being aimed to be a big budget Blockbuster, if anyone can pull it off is Spielberg. I think he can show us the psychology behind characters big action movies, in which in my opinion Jackson fails.

If Spielberg gets behind it, count this movie as good as made. He'll probably tap Bay to direct.

I rather see a Gears of War movie over Halo, but hopefully this movie turns out the best!

Since it took but almost 10 posts to derail this thread, I will trow out,,,

Halo By Spielberg Rumors Debunked

Quote:
Late last week there was a little excitement over the possible reinvigoration of Halo, the long awaited but permanently stalled movie adaptation of the popular Xbox game franchise. IESB claimed that Steven Spielberg was in negotiations to pick up where Peter Jackson left off, with plans to make the Halo movie happen. Consider that debunked, mostly.

The boys over in Cinema Blend’s games section found this story on Kotaku in which Microsoft, the company which owns the rights to Halo, goes on the record about the rumors. Microsoft’s rather plainly stated stance is, “the Halo feature film remains on hold.” Instead, the company says their focus will be on making more games. Hopefully games less awful than Halo Wars.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the original rumor was entirely wrong. Spielberg really could be interested in making Halo. Unfortunately, Microsoft isn’t. Halo: The Movie is still dead.
