On May 10, 2016, Twilight Time will release a limited edition Blu-ray of Nicolas Roeg's 1983 film Eureka, starring Gene Hackman (giving one of the most exceptional performances of his career), Theresa Russell, Rutger Hauer, Joe Pesci, and Mickey Rourke.

In 1925, after years of futile searching in Alaska, gold prospector Jack McCann (Gene Hackman) finally finds his mother lode. His discovery makes him one of the richest men in the world. Twenty years later, living on his private island in the Caribbean, his carefully constructed isolated world begins to fall apart under the pressures of dysfunctional family, the Mafia who want to build a casino on his island, and his own struggles with greed, power, and obsession. Based loosely on the true story of Sir Harry Oakes, Eureka is an opaque, beautifully lensed, dark drama from visionary cinematographer and director Nicolas Roeg. Using his trademark elements of the supernatural and surreal, Roeg builds on his previous works examining human powerlessness when pitted against the overwhelming forces of nature and fate.

The death scene in this movie is intense.

Just watched this yesterday and two review comments came to mind.

A melodrama soap opera and Theresa Russell stole the show.

While I don't completely agree with both, I still appreciated the viewpoints and do think they are more true than false.

This movie was batcrap crazy, but in a good way for me.

Theresa is in all her glory for sure, but Hackman is as always, one of a kind.

The film has problems, but glad I sprung for it. Peschi, Spinnell, and Rourke aren't really well used, but they also don't take away from the film.

Rutger Hauer is just awesome, and yes he does scare me in the way that only he does.

I really do think of this movie like a Vinegar Syndrome release. It has that out there feel, but alas too mainstream to quite get there. The violence really is unforgettable and for some reason I think of William Inge when you scratch your head and say, what did I just see?

Love this movie for what it is, and not what others want it to be. Gonna miss Twilight Time.
