Default Classic Sci-Fi Movies That Need A Remake...!

What classic sci-fi movies need a remake using today's technology?

For me I would say these (some might croak at the thought of one or two as they are considered classics)

Forbidden Planet
When Worlds Collide
It Came From Outer Space
Logan's Run
Interstellar (just kidding)

Logans Run needs to be a Trilogy like the books.

The concept is very 60s. Youth Culture and counterculture overtakes old adults ideologies.

I dont know if that translates today. But id like a reimagining.

Overall i think Hollywood needs to come up with NEW classics but there plenty of classics that are so timeless that can be remixed for modern audiences.

Yet Weve seen too many fails at these remakes.

I think it would work, yes the concept is pretty dated, but if put in the hands of the right director, cast etc it could work well.

I always thought of Deep Impact as a remake of When Worlds Collide.
Galaxy of Terror as a redo of Forbidden Planet (Corman style).

My top pick for a remake would be Forbidden Planet. Yes the original is a superb movie as is, and perhaps it's somewhat sacrilegious to even put this movie on the list, but I feel this movie deserves a truly 1st class remake.

This would be my choice of crew...

Director:
either J J Abrams or James Gray (Ad Astra has really grown on me after several viewings).

Cast:
Donald Sutherland or Anthony Hopkins as Morbius
Hailee Steinfeld, Daisy Ridley or Margot Robbie as Altaira
Brad Pitt as Commander John Adams
Johnny Depp as Doc Ostrow
Josh Brolin as Cook

Cinematographer:
Hoyte van Hoytema or Wally Pfister

Music:
Hans Zimmer or Harry Gregson-Williams

Why would a "classic" warrant a remake?

Hmm, I know that Deep Impact is loosely based on a similar story to When World's collide, but it's not really the same thing. It would be good to see how with today's effects they would handle that collision of a rogue star into earth and then the transition to another planet from that rogue star.

Then it's not a classic. A classic stands the test of time.

So by that definition should Forbidden Planet be considered a classic?

You're asking the wrong man; I haven't seen Forbidden Planet.

In Time from 2011

The concept is so good but the ideas were underdeveloped and the acting was not strong.

Escape From New York... Yes, it is a classic. The reason I suggest it is because the concept's potential exceeded the execution's grasp due to its lower budget(not a knock on the film itself, just an observation). There is room for doing MORE with the material thanks to today's cinematic possibilities and even expand on it.

Innerspace was very similar to Fantastic Voyage, but yes that one would work really well if re-made.

Who would play the part of Raquel Welch? Difficult one as there's currently no one alive who is as hot as she was!

Wouldn't it be better for Hollywood to produce a film based on an original idea instead of ruining a classic film with a sub-par remake? Just my two cents.

Hollywood has a problem. Adults 50 and over arent going to the movies like they did in the past. Though it has been exasperated by the pandemic, the problem existed before.

So they try remakes of movies this age group saw when they were teenagers. The acid test is coming . . . Speilberg's West Side Story.
