Ok, I'm just thinking how some older arcade games had mini games between rounds, like attacking the car in SF2 or breaking boards in Art of Fighting. This game definitely needs stuff like that where you practice Miyagi's teachings (paint the fense, etc.) or chop through blocks of ice, could be a fun throwback to some classic arcade experiences.

I like the sprite cartoon art style, and I'm sure the game will be a quality brawler beat 'em up, but I think we're starting to see a bit much of this cartoony cute sprite art style for fighting games recently.
How so? TMNT Shredder's Revenge 2023 brawler game Double Dragon Rise of the Dragons 2023 brawler game GI Joe Wrath of Cobra 2024 brawler (Switch and PC) Karate Kid Street Rumble brawler 2025 I rather have less sprite cute cartoon style, and more variety of styles. Streets of Rage 4 for example changed things up nicely. Stop with the cute cartoon sprites and offer more realistically proportioned characters IMO. At this point, I almost feel like there is some kind of cute cartoon sprite style template that these studios are using to create their brawlers. |

I love that beat-em-ups are coming back, but yeah this art style is getting tiring. At least it's not anime.

Thanks! That game actually looks really good for the art style. Not overly cute, a bit more proportioned, not too exaggerated. Will check it out and probably buy that one soon, thanks. But yes, it does have a pixel sprite style to it. And they are cartoons.
I wouldn't mind if there were No sprite-pixels as an option for all these games. Shut off the pixelized style. EDIT: Okay, played Toxic Crusaders on Steam (free demo on Steam but not on PS5 yet (at all?), full game not yet released) and it's basically a good beat 'em up, with 4+ selectable characters, but there is not much variety and by time I got done with the demo, felt that unless they add a ton more fight moves to use against enemies, it's an average fighting game. And I wish the clean non-pixelated cutscenes were the same for the main gameplay that is pixelated. The game looks good and I like the art style, but give players an option to shut off the pixel art style. Not a big fan of it anymore. If it's an 8 bit game, that's fine. Just give a screen filter option. Fight moves are very basic. Punch/kick combo button Jump kick/knee Run sweep attack Special Power drain attack Throw button/pick up items That's about it. Just not enough depth compared to the incredible Streets of Rage series. The demo is extremely generous, and it took me 30 minutes to complete level 1. The final boss was tough and I beat the demo on my 3rd life. On topic, I hope this Karate Kid game has a ton of moves to vary things up with. That's true. Hopefully the Golden Axe Reboot game delivers something fresh visually in 2025 from Sega. Last edited by Zivouhr; 07-18-2024 at 04:50 PM. |
