Default DVI to HDMI?

Hey guys,just a quick question.
I purchased a dvi-hdmi cable to go from my digital cable box to my 50"
hatachi lcd.I was using a monster component cable, thought id be upgrading
using dvi-hdmi.Ah first impression after a day an a half of watching HD chanels and reg chanels is the dvi really kinda sucks,i would have thought the dvi would have been a slight improvment at the very least, but nope it looks very grainy and somewhat washed out.I bought a dynex 6' dvi-hdmi cable was
50.00 bucs at futureshop.Question is could it be cause i bought a cheaper cable, and maybe
spend a few more bucs for a better quality cable or will that make any difference at all?
I must say going threw the component cable my hd chanels looked pretty awesome. Thanks any thouhts?

you should calibrate your DVI input on the TV. It will not be using the same picture settings as the Component input.

the cable will not make the difference. (but you could have saved some money )

Set color temp to 'Warm'

turn off any video modes...such as Cinema,Game etc

Keep brightness and contrast somewhat lower.

Turn down sharpness (doesnt have to be completely off, but it only adds noise)

Ok,well still fine tuning cause im finding its still not as great looking as i had
with the component cable,PQ is much improved from yesterday.Im going to
give it one more day if its not where i think it should look, i will just go back
to the component cable.

I owned a SONY WEGA 55" LCDRP (KDF-55WF655) in which I ran a DVI to HDMI Monster cable from my Dish receiver to my TV. Great HD picture. When I went to DirectTV, I have to buy an DVI/HDMI converter for the DirectTV receiver. Still great HD picture. I soon bought a PS3. With only one HDMI port on the TV, I had to downgrade the DirectTV receiver from HDMI to component. Still great HD picture, and ALMOST as good as HDMI. Now, I have a SONY BRAVIA 55" SXRD (KDS-55A3000). I'm using two of my three HDMI ports for DirectTV and the PS3. Great HD picture on both accounts.

My poloroid plasma is EDTV and only had a DVI input, no HDMI. I got a hdmi to dvi wire and it was ALOT better than componet. I had to run optical sound from the ps3 to the receiver but it was all good.
That TV is now in the bedroom and we have a philips DVD player connected. Sometimes I get this warning type message from the tv saying that I am using a non hdcp? machine. What does that mean. It will go on and off every 10 seconds. I have to unplug my tv for a second and then it is fine. I have to do this about once every 2 weeks or so. Why does it do that?

The HDCP is copy protection of HD HDMI signals. When an HDMI device such as a PS3 detect that the equiptment it's connecting to is not HDCP compliant, it will "give you problems" to discourage and prevent those from wanting to pirate the signal. Could anyone else please elaborate on this?

That is what I kinda thought but why does it give me problems only somtimes. Shouldnt have issues everytime I turn on the DVD player? It is not a big deal as i have it set up to unplug very easy but it is just wierd. Sometimes it does not give the warning but just messes up. Just wondering. Hopefully it breaks in the next 2 years. I have a 5 year CC warranty. We paid 1500 over 2 years ago( at the time, nothing came close for that price for a 42 inch plasma. And now 1500 gets you a prett good TV, even though the polaroid has pretty much been a great TV. Does anyone on this forum even have or know someone who has a polaroid plasma TV?
