USA The Good Lord Bird (2020) - July 19, 2022

Showtime will be releasing the critically-acclaimed miniseries The Good Lord Bird, starring Ethan Hawke, on Blu-ray on July 19th.

Special Features:
  • James McBride intro
  • Rediscovering John Brown
  • Fireside Chat
  • Art of Artillery
  • Outfitting the Good Lord Bird
  • Making of Harpers Ferry
Quote:
Synopsis
Ethan Hawke, Daveed Diggs and Joshua Caleb Johnson star in a humorous, dramatic and historical tapestry of Antebellum America based on the award winning novel by author James McBride. Told from the point of view of Onion, a newly freed teenager who joins abolitionist John Brown on a holy crusade to end slavery and finds himself part of the famous 1859 raid at Harpers Ferry, the Limited Event Series is an adventure equal parts absurd and tragic, spotlighting the ever-changing racial, religious and gender roles that make up the American identity.

Is this real or an assumption? There is no pre-order for it, and its supposed to be released in 4 days and I have yet to see an official announcement.

I worked on this show for 1.5 weeks as a photo double, so... instant pre-order. Absolutely my favorite project I've worked on.

Genuine curiosity (coming from somebody waaaay outside the world of movie/show creation): what does being a photo double entail?

In this case, I “filled in” for Jack Alcott (who played Jason Brown and later went onto play Harrison in Dexter: The New Blood) when he was sick and in the hospital. I was basically his stunt double without the stunts. We look alike, are around the same age, and are the same height. I wore his stunt double’s costume, had hair extensions put in my hair to match his, and had my ears (which stick out a little more) glued back (and they constantly needed adjusting). I had to learn his lines, and say them in the scene, but the coverage would only get my back and my side. They later went back and did pickup shots where Jack’s face was visible. I also had to have some gun training, since I was filmed shooting (with caps) out of his gun in the background. I also filled in for cast table reads, but many of his lines were given to other characters, which is why his character isn’t quite as prominently featured in episode 5 like he was originally supposed to be. This went on for about a week and a half. It was cool because I technically got to (unofficially) act alongside Ethan Hawke, who was very nice and welcoming to me, and I got to know the rest of the cast (that was on set at the time) pretty well too. Also, getting actual direction from DP Peter Deming was cool, and Kate Woods (the director that I worked with the most) was a total sweetheart. The show’s line producer also shook my hand and I got to see Jason Blum in person (though we never spoke; he was always on the phone). If you watch episodes 5, almost every time you see Jason Brown in the Harper’s Ferry warehouse and DON’T see his face (or see him way off in the distance), it’s me. I know you can see me in the deep background shooting during the shootout. Also, when he confesses to killing the man to John Brown at night, my shoulder is very visible. I felt bad for Jack the whole time, especially since this was his first big project, but he at least seemed to recover just fine.

This isn’t the same thing as being a “stand-in,” where you just stand in place while the lights and camera are being set up, although I did plenty of that too.

I also appear in this show like half-a-dozen times as an extra. I’m even in the very first shot of the show, although my face isn’t visible. You can see me sitting under a tree in many of the trailers. I’m even in the background of a couple of the EPKs on the DVD. I was definitely one of the more prominent local hires that worked on this. I technically became SAG-Eligible from the work.

This appears backordered everywhere I looked. Guess they only manufactured a low print. Now it's time to play the waiting game.

They're the retailer for many MOD titles like this one. They're a solid company with a great track record. If you do order from them, you can save 10% with the code SAFEOPT10

Because there are no available links to buy it from except an empty Amazon page with no details.

I noticed on Amazon they have the title listed as a BD-R while on MovieZyne it's an actual MOD BD. I'm wondering if anyone who owns this can confirm what type of disc the title is pressed on.

Where did you buy it? I bought mine from MovieZyne a few days ago, and it should arrive in a couple days. It looks like Amazon might have BD-Rs given the "Blu-ray Disc" on the cover art mockup, but MovieZyne, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc have the actual Blu-ray logo.
