Greetings everyone,
I'm not sure if this is exactly the right place to post this but since I frequent this forum the most I thought I'd give it a shot. I've had my PS3 60gb for almost a year now and I can never get the wireless internet to reach any reasonable speeds or even work sometimes! I've tried changing every setting I can think of and before anybody says move it closer to the router, signal strength isn't an issue, my laptop get speeds down such as 9000kbit/s (see attached jpeg) where the PS3 is so you would think the PS3 would get the same speeds. Does anybody know if there is a fix to this or if the 80gb PS3 works better? If it does I might just take it back and say it's faulty and ask for the newer version. Thanks! |

i had the same problem with my 60gb PS3 when i first got it...figured why not use its wireless capabilities...it worked only it wasnt stable, it would cut out often or say it couldnt detect a wireless connection and my router is just 4 feet from the ps3! so i just ended up going for the wired connection and no problems getting disconnected anymore. if anyone knows of a solution if they had similar problems i'd like to know aswell so i can get back to wireless on the ps3.

I have a LINKYS router and I had similar issues, but after chatting when a links advisor they had me turn off a certain security setting and after that my PS3 internet worked fine. Before I could not even log on to play Motorstorm online because it would not connect. Now it works awesome.

I have a Linksys WRT54G router (very common one) and I don't have any security settings enabled that could come in the way... Unfortunately wiring is almost not an option since I'd have to run the cable through: living room, dining room, kitchen

I get stellar performance from the PSN in excess of 700 KBps as an average. From my own experience, there are no ports to forward or security settings to deal with. I have the famous Linksys WRT54G as well. I do run the Tomato custom firmware, which is nice, but is no different in performance from dd-wrt or stock.
One thing you might try however, is to enable Quality of Service (QoS) for your router. There are many guides available through google, first you just set up a static ip for your PS3, and then whenever the PS3 needs to access the internet, QoS dictates that your router to give it priority over any other traffic. The theory behind this is faster speeds and less lag. Give it a shot. |

I have the same model with speedbooster, and i got my 60 gig when it launched and at first hooking up the wireless to it was the most frustrating thing of my life. But now its perfect. The main problem at first was with the PS3, but after some updates it started working fine.
type http://192.168.1.1/ into your browser and your linksys host settings will appear. This is where you forward ports and what not, which is a most for PS3...WoW, any online game pretty much to avoid network errors and not being able to connect to players. If i remember correctly the default for it is 'admin' and there is no password. |

I have the same router , a WRT54G v4. If you have a verison 4 you can actually upgrade the frimware to a homebrew version with allot more options. It turns the WRT54G router into a 200 dollar piece of equipment. Since updating the router it acts completely different and faster. I don't know if it would solve your problem. Also you need to read all the directions and feel comfortable knowing if you screw up and brick the uinit you will have to buy new router. It worked fine for me following these directions. If you dont have a version 4, disregard this post.
