I love trying out alternate soundtracks on experimental movie box sets and sometimes silents. Obviously more out there, spacey, weird, progressive types of music work best across the board, but I'm sure there are other combos out there. I'm looking for suggestions from other heretics like me. A recent Mashup that worked for me was "The Bungles of Life": + *note: played some of Disco Volante to make the runtimes match.
