I have heard that, apparently, many businesses in Denmark have their POS terminals programmed to charge an extra 3% or more if the credit card used happens to be from outside of Europe. In 2019, somebody from the USA who you can find here was to pay their restaurant tab which was supposed to be DKK 600. The server entered DKK 600 into the terminal, but when this person used their card, the machine decided it would charge DKK 618 upon determining the card was from outside of Europe. Has anyone here used their USA credit card, preferably in Apple Pay, in Denmark recently, and if so, does this fee still apply and where? I have never heard of this practice in any other country in the world. We (the USA) are the only country that has credit cards as fancy as ours with high reward rates and no foreign exchange fees (and no, I do not condone carrying a balance).
