I like the film well enough despite having major issues with the characters, but I absolutely love the Broadway musical. It made the characters far more likable, their motivations less selfish, and it used the musical numbers to further the story in the style of a book musical (whereas the film only has the numbers for the sake them performing and rehearsing for the inn's shows). If the show doesn't get its own separate release, I'll double dip on the 75th anniversary edition of the film.

Default Holiday Inn on Broadway

Yes, the Broadway show based on the 1942 American Musical starring Bing Crosby & Fred Astair was recently on Broadway starring Corbin Bleu & Bryce Pinkham. The show was filmed and is about to be released nationwide in theaters through Fathom Events.

BUT....

The show was JUST released on bluray in disguise. For those who purchase the 75th Anniversary Edition of the original movie (in original B&W & the Colorized version) a SECOND BONUS disk of the entire Broadway show is included in GLORIOUS HD.

So, for the price of ONE movie ticket, you get 2 versions of the original film AND the ALL NEW HD copy of the Broadway show. I know Fathom Events are charging $18.00 per ticket, but Walmart is selling the entire package for ONLY $11.99. WHAT A STEAL!!!

I just finished watching this show and to be honest, I enjoyed it MUCH more than the original film.

I'm posting this for all those who (like me) enjoy Broadway live musicals but seldom get to travel to New York to actually SEE these amazing shows. This bonus disk on the film is REALLY a SPECIAL FEATURE indeed.

I picked up the blu-ray a week ago or so and noticed when I opened it up that there was a second disc with that musical. I think there was a sticker on the shrinkwrap but I never noticed it, but that is a cool bonus feature. I'll have to give it a watch this December.

I noticed it at Best Buy last week and picked it up. I had a $5 coupon so it was a no brainer for the value. I've never seen Holiday Inn. Looking forward to checking out both productions next month.

Thanks for the tip about the Broadway show being included with the movie! Amazon also has it for $11.99.

Thanks for letting us know. I may still see it in theaters for the big screen experience but it's good to know that I can own my own copy. Ditto on never having seen either before.

I completely missed that the Broadway musical was included -- I just got my copy. Does anyone know if the digital copy included in this version includes that? If it's just the movie, I'll just include the slip with my older version since I had already redeemed that.

Just received my copy from Amazon and it came with a minty slip to my surprise. Can’t wait to watch this before Christmas.

I liked this film but didn't love it and bought it only because I'd never seen it and it was the first appearance of White Christmas..

I absolutely love the movie White Christmas as does my entire family, for myself Holiday Inn pales in comparison and I'm also a huge Fred Astaire fan.

Well, next year is the 80th anniversary. I wonder what the odds are that Universal puts out a 4K UHD?

They could digitally replace it with clownface like Richard Elfman did for Forbidden Zone.

I was expecting this to come from a boutique label and not Universal. Good sign for other (non-Hitchcock or monster) major B&W movies owned by them to get 4k releases down the line (All Quiet On the Western Front, Marx Brothers, etc,).

Question Holiday Inn

In the 75th Anniversary Blu-Ray Edition, did they remove the Abraham Lincoln scene?
