You know u've got 'something better' when you watch a 1080p blu-ray movie, then shortly after go to the movie theater.
Watch as your eyes start to hurt, complain to your friends the movies unfocused and realise the movie theater experience is no longer a movie theater, experience. Thank You Blu-Ray for showing how horrible theater quality is! ![]() Agree? |

Funny thing is we just got a Cinaplex Odion 2 years ago here, everything brand new with reclining seats when you lean back. I sat dead center in the middle and I dropped my jaw noticing how unclear the picture was for National Treasure 2. If it's a comedy, quality's not really an issue, but if it's action intense, quality, is everything...

Outside of IMAX, I would agree that blu ray and a good 1080p tv is a better experience.

Frankly I prefer regular cinemas with digital projection over Imax (for regular movies anyway).
All that crap they go on about digitally enhancing the movies for Imax is effectively the equivilant of upscaling for the "big screen". I find the contrast ratio terrible and theres pretty much a tiny sweet spot in the cinema for decent viewing. Not to mention altering the aspect ratio and the curved screen. It's not bad, but I'd go to a gigantic 4K projection screen over Imax any day, and most of the cinemas I tend to go to these days are Digital projection. |

I'd have to agree. I have 2 theaters in my town that usually are good, the rest always have out of focus movies and are musty smelling. When I went to see Rambo I got lazy and just went to the theater 5 minutes from me instead of the good one 20 minutes away and I regretted it. Either way, I would've much rather seen it on Blu at home.

Also, it's way better than the drive-in !!!
(my gf always wants to go but I really hate it, I saw PotC 2 at the drive in and quite frankly I didn't see anything, just a grayish screen!) Once I'll get my new plasma tv, I might never go to a theater again (except perhaps for a 3D film!). Also since most movies release far quicker than before, even if you're dying to see a movie, it's not that bad! |

Digital projection destroys Blu-ray, well, 4K especially, lots more resolution and you're basically looking at very little in the way of space or bandwidth constraint, atleast compared to the disc formats.
That being said, nothing better than BD in the home, and the screens smaller so... |

Movie theaters are great except for the fact that there are 100 other people there with you opening their bag of gummy bears, slurping their soda, and getting pissed off when I try and pause the movie to go take a leak. Also, I like to watch movies in my boxerbreifs. The theaters don't like selling me tickets when I don't have my pants on. Go figure!
