Default Sony 52 XBR4 or Panny TH-58PZ700U?

I was sold on the sony but i have read a lot of things that the xbr4 has very bad ghosting and clouding issues. These are the 2 tvs i have narrowed down to but i need some help. the price is the same on the 2 and it doesnt matter if i go plasma or lcd because i have a lcd in my bedroom where i game at. I have a philips 42pf9631d/37 curently in my living room and i want the new tv to be leaps and bounds better (if i go xbr4 then i might move the phlips 42 into the bedrom and get rid of my 37 olevia lcd and make the xbr my gaming tv). well opinions and suggestions are welcome. thanks.

I actually narrowed my 2 down to the nearly the same thing. I decided on the Panny myself witch I will be getting this month. I mainly decided after reading many many many different customer reviews from other sites. The clouding issue is one thing I heard pretty consistant even though alot of customers state that they dont have it either. I honestly cant find any bad reviews for the Panny besides customer service issues.(which wasnt manny by the way). Plus Consumer Reports ranked the 50" Plasma by Panny #1 TV. I currently have a Maxent 42" Plasma which is a low end Plasma that actually has worked great for me but its only 720p and I need to keep up with the Jones's..lol. The other customer complaints with the Sony or any LCD for that matter was that people that owned a plasma before was that they didnt like the picture quality compared to their old plasma once they tried the LCD, so I figured that I would stick with my beautiful deep blacks on a plasma. One other nice thing with Plasma is the motion blur is really close to non exsistant on plasma where as in LCD you have to look for the 24hz to reduce the motion blur but you pay hundreds more for it. This is all what I have researched atleast.

These guys are mental to tell you to get a Panasonic product over a Sony XBR.

Spec them out side by side and then go read the cnet.com reviews on the XBR series vs. the Panasonic models. Also read consumer reviews on bestbuy.com, amazon.com, and circuitcity.com.

Do you watch specs or picture quality? All the bells and whistles in the world are pointless if in the end there is something better.

The Panasonic is the better tv. Better blacks. No clouding/flashlighting issues. No motion, stuttering issues. No artificacting etc.

Get the Panny. There the best all round HDTV's "Consumers Report's" will confirm this along with many other reputable places of the like.

The PQ of my 50PZ700U playing a Blu from my DMP-BD10 is just outrageous. It's getting broken in and it just keeps getting better. Briefly (very briefly) considered a Kuro but could not justify the cost. My only gripe with the Panasonic is that it only has 2 HDMI connectors, would have gladly paid for 4.

LCDs make awesome PC monitors. So get both, Panny for your TV, Sony for your PC!

The Panny - absolutely! I've got mine hooked up to the Panny BD30 and it has been nothing less than jaw-dropping.

Get the Panny. Are insane for not to. its no brainer. Best bang for the buck u will ever get for TV. Nothing wrong with XBR, it just that I dont see pay more for something seems little less.

Do the research and look at non-biased editorial reviews. Then go look at the TVs in person and pick the one that looks the best to you. The opinion will be in the eye of the beholder.

I dont think anyone is saying that the XBR is bad by any means. I am just concerned with the blacks. Nothing can touch a plasma on blacks. The majority of movies I prefer to watch are darker type movies so I definately like the Panny. The "clouding" or "bleed through" image is the only thing I hear negative about the XBR series.

LOL@ Panny Nazis. Are u a SONY Nazi on the other hand? My friend has the 52 XBR5 and I compared it with my Panny 77u. We totally agree that both TV look close in term of PQ but Panny seems to have a sharper image then the XBR 5. Deeper color as well. awesome black level. I am sorry the LCD still cant touch plasma in black level. I dont care what u say. That just the matter of the fact. I am not say who has the best TV or whatever but in this case the guy is looking for a TV that is 52" vs 58" at around the same price range. If I were him I will go with little bigger for the same price.
